    Session:

    Mr.Vishwajeet briefed students regarding importance of competitive exams and their preparation. Session was interactive soon followed by GD. Students were benefited by this session.

    The institute has organised several activities under training and placement for the students of TE and BE. A special TPO slot was introduced in the time table to sharpen the skills of the students when they attend interviews. In this session students were trained on “Personality Development”, “Quantitative Aptitude”, “Logical Reasoning and Verbal reasoning” through the in-house trainers. Other than the regular activities some special webinars/seminar were conducted which include:

    This seminar was delivered by Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Associate professor, Department of EXTC guided the students for technical report and research paper writing.

    Automobile and Mechanical Engineering students of Team STARKERS in association with “Performance MotorWorks” and “Mechanical and Automobile Departments” organized a Three Day Workshop on “Go-Kart Design and Manufacturing”.

    The guest lecture was preceded by a short talk by Prof. Anish S. and Prof. Prabhu Ganacharya. Workshop was conducted by Mr. Gaurav Hadavale, Founder of Performance MotorWorks (PMW). Before starting the Design and manufacturing of Go-kart, he divided the session into four introductory parameters:

    1. Introduction of Go-kart and Cost analysis
    2. Transmission System
    3. Design and analysis using Solid Works, Ansys Software

    In the first part of session Mr. Hadavale discussed about static parts of go-kart and how each and every component works, time span and costing.

    Then he explained Engine working and fundamentals:

    Chassis: Fundamentals of chassis design, Chassis materials, Light metals for chassis, Tolerance in designing, Bending strength calculation, Manufacturing Technique for Chassis Body Works and Custom parts, Safety Equipment and consideration.

    Braking System: Brake performance parameters, Braking efficiency, Weigh load transfer./p>

    Steering System: Steering dynamics, Four wheel steering mechanism, Turning radius calculations, Ackerman principle.

    The last day of workshop conducted in Solid Works Lab (3rd floor). In this session Mr. Hadavale explained CAD software basic tools, Chassis designing and stress analysis of each component, Extrude feature, basic part modeling, sprocket, Go-kart wheel hub, Disc brake, Steering assembly. After the sir’s session, students designed their own innovative chassis in solid work software and analysed in Ansys software.

    The event ended with honorarium to the guests and vote of thanks.

    Project based learning is a very successful learning technique used where the problem is the starting point of learning technique. Students get to work in group seeking multiple sources of information and creating authentic products. Project based learning started with the goal to help PHCET engineering students develop the skills, tools and character they will need as future leaders in the world of engineering practice. The benefits are plenty including improved designing of circuits skill, understanding concepts, people and processes in an organisation. The core idea of PBL is that real-world problems capture students’ interest and provoke serious thinking, as the students acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem-solving context.

    Automobile and Mechanical Engineering

    Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology, Department of Mechanical and Automobile Engineering organised PBL on 19th October, 2018 for third year students and 13th October, 2018 for second year students. Totally 66 teams for third year and 36 teams for second year have demonstrated their projects. The necessary equipment and components were provided by the college freely to the students to complete their projects. Evaluation was done by panel of faculties by standard rubrics.

    The problem statement for PBL are as follows
    Second Year: Skyscraper

    • Design and fabricate a skyscraper capable of sustaining a load
    • Materials for the structures are limited to polystyrene foam and pencils
    • Tallest structure would be appreciated

    Design a skyscraper capable of:

    1. Sustaining the weight of a 0.5 litre bottle
    2. Remaining stable when it is 10º incline
    3. Minimum height of the structure should be 1 m with minimum 4 links
    4. Base should not exceed 45cm*45cm area

    Technical Objectives

    1. Document rough ideas / plans for the skyscraper
    2. Check feasibility of final idea / plan
    3. Design and document plans for the skyscraper

    The evaluation will be done in two stages:
    First Evaluation: Explain to the teacher the documents detailing the group’s plans, Design and its Implementation

    Final Evaluation: Display the project with a report containing following points:

    1. Introduction – should include Goals of Project, General Background on skyscrapers, Forces involved, Energy Transformations, Construction methods and Materials used.
    2. Design (estimation of dimensions of various parts) – Optional
    3. Computerized (CAD) figures showing assembly and details of the pot
    4. Cost analysis
    5. Conclusion
    6. References (all sources of information should be clearly cited)
    7. Contribution details of each participant of the group

    Third Year: Pressure Vessel
    Design a Reinforced pot made up of steel or aluminium such that it develops steam maintained under pressure to lift 75 gms of dead weight.

    Assume Ǭ = 0.47 KJ/s (Heat Supplied by Burner) & mass of water 0.1 Kg to avoid accident use safety valve to relieve excess pressure from the pot.

    Note: Pots without safety valve will not be taken for examination.

    Learning Activities and Tasks :

    1. Student should calculate, analyse and make their design.
    2. Student should calculate the time required to lift the dead weight. The time should not exceed 3 minutes.
    3. Student must be careful while selecting material and its thickness.
    4. Student should study the various production process required to build the pot.

    The evaluation will be done in two stages:

This one-day Exhibition creates awareness on IoT & it’s applications in following domains: Smart Health, Smart Transportation, Smart Agriculture, Smart Buildings, Smart Cities, Smart Security, Smart Retail.

    The IoT Innovation Exhibition organized by the department of Information Technology of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, was held on 12th October, 2018. The total 21 groups have participated in this Exhibition. The students were motivated to conduct this exhibition during their IoT practical session which is the part of their curriculum for the current semester. The faculty in charge for the subject and students organized and participated in this programme very enthusiastically giving working models of where and how IoT can be used in our day today life.

    The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Mohan Ingle Asst. Manager at National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM). He was very impressed by the hardware models and presentations of every group. With an endeavour to promote scientific attitude among budding young students, this exhibition was one of its kind. As the host team, IT Department students participated only for the spirit of participation, sharing and learning and not in the competitive section.

    The judges applauded the students for their novel ideas as the world is moving towards digital India, which would help the world to become a much better place to live in. HOD prof. Monisha Mohan thanked all the participating teams for making this event a success and appreciated their novel projects. Students from other departments of Second Year, Third Year and Final Year had come to view the projects which in turn proved to be a learning experience for them. The ceremony of workshop came to an end with a group photo session.

    Solid Works – a leading 3D solid modeling software – boasts a vast array of tools that can help you build better designs and spot errors that you might ordinarily miss. In this course, get acquainted with some of the more advanced manufacturing verification and simulation tools that are available in Solid Works and discover how you can leverage them to efficiently review your assemblies and parts for errors. Instructor Gabriel Corbett walks through a variety of time-saving tools that can help you save money and time on your projects, including Interference Detection, Clearance Verification, Hole Alignment, Costing, Part Reviewer and part and assembly Performance Evaluation. As he goes step-by-step through each tool, Gabriel shares real world examples that help to provide context for each feature.

    Advanced Tools:

    1. Sweep and Loft: Sweep is the one feature in Solid works that helps sweep a closed profile along a closed or open path. In a Loft, Profiles are the primary influence of the shape. Guide curves are used to shape the outside of feature between profiles. Loft feature also contains a centreline parameter which is meant to provide a direction for the centre locations of the profiles.
