    Faculty Workshop on “Modified Bloom’s Taxonomy Based Engineering Curriculum Delivery”

    Goal of the Workshop
    The new norms of NBA stipulate that the teacher’s focus should shift from teaching to learning. In this context Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives in the Congnitive Domain is recommended to be the focus for the lecture delivery. Since Bloom’s Taxonomy consists of many layers, it is difficult to implement it on mass scale. Hence, we choose the modified Bloom’s Taxonomy that consists of mainly four levels. These are Information Level, Understanding Level, Application Level and the Synthesis Level. In our one day workshop, held on Saturday 7th June 2014, around 25 faculty members have been identified and trained to present a single concept from the perspective of these four levels. Each participant was given 3 minutes to present the concept at each level. This amounts to 12 minutes. With a buffer of 3 minutes, each participant got 15 minutes to make a presentation. By having a tight control on the time all 25 faculty participants could make presentations in the one day workshop that started at 10:00 Hrs and went on till 17:00 Hrs.

    Participation
    Around 60+ Faculty members from all departments participated. Remaining faculty members were either on vacation, or were having other duties allocated to them as the examinations and both University and Institute CAP were in progress.

    Feedback
    The general feedback is very good All faculty members felt that they had obtained a new perspective to teaching and that this perspective will definately help them to perform better as teachers in the classroom. Some even felt that this could help in improving pass percentage.

    Thanks to all the Authors, participants, sponsors for overwhelming response to ‘Tech Streams’ a National Conference held at Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology, Rasayani, Dist. Raigad on 21st & 22nd February, 2014. Conference Secretariat thanks to all the guests, session chairs, keynote speakers, MES management, Faculty, staff and volunteers who contributed significantly to make the event grand success.

    The presented shortlisted research papers along with reviewers comments and session chairs decision will be sent shortly to the authors. Authors are requested to correct the same and make it to minimum 8 pages so as to publish the same in the Journal. The final decision will be based on the re-review process.

    The site helped students to get practical knowledge of how to fix segments, detailing of prestress beam by using structure designing how we can execute actual structure on site. Mr. Deepak Patil who is the site engineer of the site shared his experience of 3-4 years.

    Workshop on “Introduction to Latex”

    Workshop was conducted on “Introduction to LATEX” for the students of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology on 2nd May, 2013. Workshop was organised in campus to update students with the latest technical knowledge and enhance technical skills with commendable efforts of PHCET faculty.

    The Wokshop “Introduction to LATEX” was conducted to introducing students the latest software tool for technical writing, LATEX which is a Document Markup Language used to produce scientific and mathematical documents of high typographical formats.

    To give the auspicious start, the event started with the lightening of E-Lamp. All students participated enthusiastically and whole event was great learning experience with great success.

    Mahatma Education Society conducted one day Research Forum Seminar at PHCET, Pillai HOCL Educational Campus, Rasayani, on 26th April, 2013.

    The Research forum was an idea initiated by Dr. Daphne Pillai, Chairperson, MES Management Board.

    The Research Forum was originally envisaged by Dr. Daphne Pillai, Secretary, MES as a forum to give opportunities for the researchers – both students and faculty – of MES Institutions to discuss their research projects and also publish their research work. This forum critically examines various aspects of engineering. The Forum sets itself the task of disseminating factually accurate information in addition to analysis on different aspects in engineering.

    The Forum encompasses diverse and interesting topics in the field of Engineering and Engineering Education. In addition to presentations of research papers by faculty and students, the forum provides an opportunity to postgraduate students to present their Masters Project Proposals in front of invited experts. This unique feature has enabled the postgraduate students to get clarity about their project and thus enable them to proceed with the project work timely.

    Several projects were on display for all to see and appreciate. Some noteworthy projects were an indigenously designed LCD Projector, e-samay (an electronic pooja lamp) etc.

    The forum was a successful event which enriched the research community and motivated others to do more research in different areas in engineering.

    e-YANTRA, Robotics Workshop

    Robotics and Embedded Systems Lab was set up under the e-YANTRA project of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India through IIT, Bombay.

    Teachers Robotics Competition of the Engineering Colleges of the University of Mumbai was held in our college PHCET. Around 18 colleges have participated in the day long competitions conducted by IIT Bombay through the e-YANTRA project of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
