    IoT and Embedded Target Boards Workshops

    Department of Information Technology had organised Two day Workshop on IoT and Embedded Target Boards. Experts shared their insights, real life scenarios, practical use cases and their solutions on Internet of Things and Hands on Development using various IoT kits. First session started with keynote lecture on IoT and future it provided the insights of IoT applications for smart home, smart cities, smart light etc. They formed a group of participants for practical implementation of IoT kit.

    Department of Computer Engineering conducted an Expert Lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and its Application” on Saturday, 20th July, 2019 at Seminar Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Students from the VIII semester of the Computer Engineering department attended the Expert Lecture. The Expert speaker was Mr. Subhash Bhaskaran Ayinoor. Currently, he is working in LTI (Larsen & Toubro Infotech). He has 22 years of experience in the IT industry. His expertise is in recent technologies like Big Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Blockchain.

    The Expert Lecture started with an introduction on what is Artificial Intelligence and its importance in the present times. Mr. Subhash Bhaskaran discussed the evolution of five generations of computer languages. He told us that at present, artificial intelligence is part of the fifth generation of computer programming languages. He also unfolded concepts like Heuristics, Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks, Automated Reasoning, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Expert Systems. He described the correlation between of Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning and Deep Learning. He explained to students how Natural Language Processing is changing our lives. It is already being used in voice recognition, speech recognition, image processing, computer vision and robotics. He gave many case studies where artificial intelligence is used for making our lives more comfortable. While explaining the important applications of Artificial Intelligence, he discussed smart devices such as Alexa. The enthusiastic audience asked many questions and he answered all the question. Many interesting applications he suggested to the students that can be implanted as their final year projects.

    Seminar on “Understanding the IMC RBNQ Award Criteria”

    One Day Seminar was organised by Internal Quality Assurance Cell of PHCET on 20th July, 2019 on the topic “Understanding the IMC RBNQ Award Criteria”. Among several initiatives of the IMC Chamber of Commerce & Industry, a significant one was the setting up of Quality Improvement & Technology Committee in 1993 and the Quality Cell. This Expert Committee – chaired by Mr. Niraj Bajaj – instituted the IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award (IMC RBNQA) Trust to administer the Award with a purpose of spreading awareness for quality and fostering competitiveness in Indian Industry. Ms. Maya Desai, Director IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award Trust was the guest speaker. Dr. Mansi Subhedar, IQAC Coordinator presented the summary of quality initiatives taken by PHCET till date and PHCET’s initiative to apply for RBNQA.

    Principal, Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee welcomed Ms. Maya Desai. Ms. Desai explained the application process and the various criteria involved. All teaching faculty attended the seminar. Some case studies were also done within faculty groups under the guidance of Ms. Desai. Dr. Mathew presented vote of thanks and PHCET’s future plans for the quality education.

    Workshop on “Latex” 2019

    As per the culture of Pillai HOC College of Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering organizes various technical workshops for aspirants assembling with various interests in the field with a very high competitive spirit to participant and with the strong determination to include their achievements & accomplishments to their resumes. For the preceding academic year 2019-20, we have organized a Workshop on “LaTeX” on 19th July, 2019 for B.E. students so that they can prepare project report.

    Department of Computer Engineering organized Seminar on “How to Write a Research Paper” for the B.E. students. The Seminar started with a warm welcome of the Speakers and the audience. After the warm welcome, Ms. Srijita Bhattacharjee briefed the guidelines of the project for Sem VII and VIII and the paper publication details. She also explained the steps to implement a project. Dr. Ashok Kanthe has enlightened the students about the format and steps to write a good research paper.

    One Day Expert Talk was organised by Internal Quality Assurance Cell of PHCET on 13th July, 2019. Dr. P. S. Goel was the guest speaker. Principal, Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee welcomes Dr. P. S. Goel. He addressed the various aspects of Research Proposal Writing. He also explained various agencies that can offer funds for research projects and their rules and regulations. He also motivated faculty to write good research articles and offered guidelines to choose good journals for research work publication. The session was very informative and motivated all faculty members to work on research projects. Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Co-ordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, PHCET presented vote of thanks.

    One Week Faculty Development Program on “Data Science”

    Department of Computer Engineering and Information Technology of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology organized One Week Faculty Development Program on “Data Science” under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission for Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), Government of India in association with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It was scheduled from 1st to 7th July, 2019. This course provides comprehensive Data Science (Rubics) training for those who prefer to come up to speed on building Data Science capabilities. The prerequisites is the rapid pace of this class favors those who learn new concepts quickly, or have previous experience with Data Analysis along with basic knowledge of Statistics. Data Science is a blend of various tools, algorithms, and machine learning principles with the goal to discover hidden patterns from the raw data. Data Science is an interdisciplinary field, data science deals with processes and systems, that are used to extract knowledge or insights from large amounts of data. Data extracted can be either structured or unstructured. Data science is a continuation of data analysis fields like data mining, statistics, predictive analysis.

    Course outcomes of FDP on Data Science are:

    • Participants will develop relevant programming abilities.
    • Participants will demonstrate proficiency with statistical analysis of data.
    • Participants will develop the ability to build and assess data-based models.
    • Participants will execute statistical analyses with professional statistical software.
    • Participants will demonstrate skill in various tools used for data science.
    • Participants will apply data science concepts and methods to solve problems in real-world contexts and will communicate these solutions effectively.

    The Faculty Development Program on “Data Science” started with the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries Mr. Swapnil Jawahire, Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee, Dr. Mathew Joseph, Dr. Ashok Kanthe, Dr. J. Nalavade and HODs of other departments in Conclave. Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee (Principal, PHCET) welcomed all the participants for the FDP and gave the bouquet to the Swapnil Jawahire (Consultant Trainer, Inteliment Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune). Dr. Mathew Joseph made familiar to the participants the Need for Data Science as companies needs to use data to run and grow their everyday business thus the fundamental goal of data science help companies make quicker and better decisions, which can take them to the top of their market. Dr. Ashok Kanthe gave a brief description of the PMMMNMTT, Government of India initiative in association with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Dr. J. Nalavade gave the introduction about Data science is a multidisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract and insights from structured and unstructured data.

    Various topics were unfolded by the eminent speakers during this FDP. Following topics were covered with the hands-on sessions:

    3. Data Analytics using Python
    4. Hands-on session on Python
    5. Hands-on session on Machine Learning,
    6. Data Analytics

    Online examination was conducted on the last day of FDP. After that, the certificate distribution ceremony was conducted. The top three scorers of the exam Ms. Smita Dange, Mr. Saurabh Sirsikar and Ms. Pooja Shukre felicitated and appreciated by dignitaries. Dr. Ashok Kanthe, Head, Computer Engineering department gave the vote of thanks and the event was concluded.
