The Department of Electronics and Computer Science organized an orientation program for Second Year B.Tech. students on 1 July 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the department. A total of 41 students attended the session.
The orientation was conducted to familiarize students with the academic structure, curriculum, and various opportunities available during the second year of the B.Tech. programme. Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Head of the Department, welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of academic discipline, regular attendance, continuous learning, and active participation in departmental activities. She provided a detailed overview of the Semester III and Semester IV curriculum designed as per the National Education Policy (NEP) and explained the teaching-learning methodology, academic regulations, and examination pattern. The continuous evaluation process, including internal assessments, assignments, practical examinations, project work, attendance requirements, and end-semester examinations, was discussed in detail to ensure that students clearly understood the evaluation criteria.
Dr. Subhedar also explained the significance of the different course categories included in the curriculum. The importance of Professional Core Courses (PCC) in building strong domain knowledge, Program Elective Courses (PEC) in enabling specialization in emerging technologies, Open Electives (OE) in promoting multidisciplinary learning, Vocational and Skill Enhancement Courses (VSEC) in developing industry-relevant competencies, and Skill Laboratories in strengthening practical and hands-on technical skills was elaborated. Students were guided on how these courses contribute to their overall academic development, employability, higher education opportunities, and career progression.
The activities and benefits of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) Students’ Forum (ISF) functioning in the department were also discussed. Students were encouraged to become active members and participate in IETE-organized technical talks, workshops, competitions, paper presentations, certification programmes, industrial interactions, and professional networking activities to enhance their technical knowledge and professional competencies.
The faculty members of the department subsequently introduced themselves and briefed the students about their respective subject areas, mentoring process, laboratory facilities, academic responsibilities, code of conduct, and departmental expectations. Students were encouraged to maintain regular interaction with faculty members, actively participate in curricular and co-curricular activities, and make optimum use of the learning resources available in the department.
The orientation concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students clarified their queries regarding the curriculum, elective selection, evaluation process, laboratory courses, technical activities, internships, and career opportunities. The session successfully provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of the academic framework and motivated them to actively engage in their academic and professional development throughout the programme.
