The Electrical Engineering Department organized an Industrial Visit to Bhira Hydro Electric Power Plant. All the second and third year Electrical Engineering students along with Prof. Pranita Chavan, Prof. R. D. More, Prof. Aamir Shaikh, Prof. Sanobar Shaikh and Prof. Supriya Shigwan visited to premises with an interest of linking the theoretical knowledge with the practical aspects of hydro electric power plant.

Mr. Amit Upadhyay, Training co-ordinator at Bhira, gave a brief introduction about Power generating System Principle and working. He explained working specification of Generator and Turbine in the process of Electricity Generation.
The plant’s maximum output capacity is nominally 300 MW, generated by six 25 MW Pelton turbines and a 150 MW pumped storage generator. The plant have two 10 kW microturbine units to generate further power from the tailrace after the main turbines.

The guest lecture was organized by Department of Electrical Engineering and it commenced at 10:00 a.m. on 27th August, 2019 in the 1st Floor, Conclave-I. Ms. Anita Chaudhari, Deputy Executive Engineer in MSEDCL was invited as resource person. She is having vast experience in Testing of electrical equipments like meters, transformers, cables etc. At factory before dispatch for MSEDCL. She has more than 13 years of experience in testing division and have an experience of testing of meters and maintenance of suubstations and attending their faults findings and troubleshooting.
The speaker commenced the session with different opportunity in power sector where she highlighted the various government schemes available for electrical engineers. Different regulatory bodies, Electricity act, Indian standards followed for testing electrical components like current transformer, power transformer etc. were discussed. Concepts of energy accounting, prepared energy meter theft detection, billing procedure followed by MSEDCL were explained by the speaker. The change in needs of considering both lead and lag factors was also discussed. Recent problems faced due to oversized capacitor banks and harmonics introduced from end-user side were discussed.
The session was concluded with a question answer session at 12:30 p.m. Students have given positive feedback and they were expecting more session like the same.

With reference to the new syllabus of CAD/CAM/CAE for SEM VII under the CBCGS scheme, the workshop was held for the participants to understand the basic concepts of API. API is new area and a concept which needs to be explored by the faculty for better understanding of the subject. The hands-on training session planned will guide the participants for conducting practical for the course.

Tata Power has operations in India, Singapore, Indonesia, South Africa and Bhutan Tata Power Group has its operations based in 35 locations in India.
The thermal power stations of the company are located at Trombay in Mumbai, Mundra in Gujarat, Jojobera and Maithon in Jharkhand, Kalinganagar in Odisha, Haldia in West Bengal and Belgaum in Karnataka. The hydro stations are located in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and the wind farms in Ahmednagar, Supa, Khanke, Brahmanwel, Gadag, Samana and Visapur. The company installed India’s first 500 MW unit at Trombay, the first 150 MW pumped storage unit at Bhira, and a flue gas desulphurization plant for pollution control at Trombay. It has generation capacities in the States of Jharkhand and Karnataka, and a distribution company in Delhi, servicing over one million consumers spread over 510 square km in the North Delhi. The peak load in this area is about 1,150 MW. Tata Power announced on 24 July 2012, commissioning of the second unit of 525 MW capacity of the Maithon mega thermal project in Dhanbad. The first unit of identical capacity was commissioned in September 2011.

The One Day Seminar was organized by Department of Electrical Engineering and it commenced at 10:00 a.m. on 26th August, 2019 in the 6th Floor, Seminar Hall. Prof. Ronita Pawn introduced the speaker Mr. S. K. Mahajan, Principal-TPSDI Shahad. He is having vast experience in the field of Power Transmission & Distribution as well as Operations areas. The Head of the Department, Ms. Pranita Chavan felicitated the speaker.
The guest speaker enlightened all the participants with career related opportunities in power sector. He explained various electrical courses required for students to improve their technical skills. Apart from curriculum, specialised training is must to secure challenging position in competitive world.
The Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) is an endeavour from the Tata Power Company to empower youth and others with employable skills, especially in the Power and allied sectors and to address the skill gap challenge faced by the Indian Power Sector. The Institute provides modular training and certification across a wide range of employable skills.

The One Day Workshop on Robotics Level-1 organized by IEI Student’s Chapter of Department of Electrical Engineering commenced at 9:30 a.m. on 23rd August, 2019 in the Electrical Seminar Hall, PHCET.
The event was held for the students of Second year and Third year of Electrical Department. It was held to make students aware about the Robotics and the benefits of carrier in it. They were informed about robotics field.
Robotic technologies are used to develop machines that can substitute for humans and replicate human actions. Robots can be used in any situation and for any purpose, but today many are used in dangerous environments (including bomb detection and de-activation), manufacturing processes, or where humans cannot survive. Information about the robotics in much greater detail was passed on to students. This helped them understand more deeply what robotics is and how they can shape their studies to form a carrier in the same.
This workshop comprises of giving the participating students an idea about Robots, Robotics, Types of Robots and their applications, Career in Robotics, Introduction to Arduino, test running the car, doubt clarification session.
We concluded our workshop with ROBO-SOCCOR match, where all the students enjoyed a lot and were interested in Level-2 Robotics Workshop.

Department of Civil Engineering conducted One Day National Workshop on “Non-Destructive Testing of Concrete: An Innovative Approach” on 23rd August, 2019. The workshop started with traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and a welcome address by Mr. Raju Narwade, Head of the Civil Engineering Department including brief introduction of the mission, vision and activities conducted in the department. This was followed by introduction of the workshop theme by Ms. Gayatri Deshpande (Convener of the workshop).
The main objective of the workshop was to explore and discuss the new techniques of Non-Destructive testing for concrete structures. Concrete Technology is very important subject of civil engineering. Its knowledge is required during planning, design and construction to ensure economical and safe designs of structures. Eminent speaker from illustrious company of Structwel Designers and Consultant Pvt. Ltd. was invited to address real-time testing done in construction work. Mr. Kaustubh Raikar (Executive Director) has delivered a seminar on various non-destructive testing on concrete such as Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test, Rebound Hammer test, Cover meter test, Half Cell Potential test, Carbonation test, Core test, Infrared Thermography test, Endoscope test with the examples of practical case studies. Hands on training on this above mentioned instruments were also given to students which helped a lot for understanding the concept.
Around 180 participants from third year, final year masters students and faculty of various engineering colleges attended the workshop, enriched their knowledge and skill in this field. The participants furnish positive feedback about the workshop. The workshop helped the participants to get well acquainted with various innovative approach and aspects of concrete testing and implementation in the real situations.

Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani organized Expert Lecture on “Need of Electronics Industry for EXTC and Electrical Engineers” under IETE Students forum, on 23rd August, 2019 for the IETE students – S.E., T.E. & B.E. EXTC. This expert lecture is delivered by Mr. Sanjay Chaudhari, Director, Electronic study center Nasik which intended to minimize the gap between Education and Industry.
