    Workshop on “IC (Internal Combustion) Engines and Basic Bike Servicing”

    Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology together with Team Starkers Motorsports organized a Workshop on “IC (Internal Combustion) Engines and Basic Bike Servicing”. It was organized over 2 working days to avoid any sort of disquiet on participant’s part. The workshop was divided into two slots with a strength of 25 participants in each slot to utilize the infrastructure and time resourcefully. The total number of participants were 100 which made the experience even more happening. The workshop was organized on 27th (Friday) and 28th September, 2019 (Saturday). The sessions commenced at 10:30 a.m. and concluded at 4:30 p.m. on both days according to the schedule.

    In this workshop students got first hand experience of the working principles for IC Engine Design. By dismantling a real IC Engine into components, participants can explore the engineering involved in an automotive engine system.

    The topics covered during the sessions were-

    1. A brief about team Starkers – this session captured the idea about the past experiences of the team in go-karting events like NKRC and GKDC
    2. An introduction and working of IC (internal combustion) engine
    3. Exposure to all the necessary tools required during the process
    4. Dismantling and assembly of the engine
    5. Analyzing and understanding all the components
    6. Future of Internal combustion engines
    7. Pollution controlling methods
    8. An informative and interactive sessions about electric vehicles
    9. A hands-on session about basic bike servicing
    10. FAQ session with all the participants

    The sessions were wonderfully conducted by the following team members –

    The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Kanthe (Head of Department) of the Computer Engineering Department, Principal ma’am Madhumita Chatterjee and Mathew Sir along with other faculty members. The event was started with the talk on Auto Machine Learning on Google Cloud, which was given by Mr. Vaibhav Malpani, a software developer at Xoriant. He told us about the importance and ease of auto ML along with some knowledge of Artificial Intelligence.

    There was a good response from the TE students; around more than 100 students attended the workshop of different branches.

    The workshop was divided into 2 sessions, in the first session after the talk on ML Ms. Priyanka Shahsane who is a Google Crowdsource community organizer, shared and informed students about Crowdsource and developed an interest in students about the Google crowdsource community.

    In the second half, Ms.Mekhala, program manager, joined us on a video call from Google head office in Bangalore and shared her experience working with Crowdsource. This event was followed up by a 5-level quiz based on ML and AI. After the quiz competition, the top contributors of Crowdsource and the winners of the quiz were felicitated with many Google goodies. The event was concluded by felicitating Mr. Vaibhav Malpani, Ms. Priyanka Shahsane and Crowdsource student experts by the HOD and Rajashree Ma’am. The event was very interactive and interesting and the students enjoyed themselves a lot at this event.

    The event finally came to an end at 4:30 p.m. and students were sent back with a small gift from google crowdsource community which included google goodies.

    Department of Civil Engineering conducted One Day Workshop on “Exploring Ferrocement” on Friday, 27th September, 2019 from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Total 137 participants from Gharda Institute of Technology, Lavel, Ratnagiri, Vidyavardhini’s College of Engineering and Technology, Vasai, Viswatmak Om Gurudev College of Engineering, Shahapur, Vishwaniketan Institute of Management Entrepreneurship and Engineering Technology, Khalapur, Terna Engineering College, Nerul, Pillai HOC College Of Engineering & Technology, Rasayni, Pillai HOC Polytechnic Rasayni, Pillai HOC College of Architecture, Rasayni participated in this workshop.

    The objective of the workshop was to provide an insight into ideas of designs and techniques of ferrocement in construction. Mr. Pushyamitra Balkrishna Divekar (Managing Committee Member, Ferrocement Society, Head Office, Pune), Mr. P. P. Lele (Hon. Secretary, Ferrocement Society, Head Office, Pune), Mr. Milind Kulkarni (Hon. Secretary, Ferrocement Society, Head Office, Mumbai), Mr. Girish Sangle (Project Co-ordinator, Ferrocement Society, Head Office, Pune) were invited as resource persons. The event -was graced by the presence of Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee, (Principal, PHCET).

    The day started with an introductory lecture on Ferrocement by Mr. Pushyamitra Balkrishna Divekar. Question and answer session was conducted on ferrocement and its applications. After that participants were divided in four groups and proceeded to make framing structures using steel rods and chicken mesh, under the guidance of members of Ferrocement Society. Preparation of mortar and filling method of mortar was explained by Mr. P. P. Lele.

    Post lunch technical sessions were conducted by Mr. P. P. Lele, Mr. Milind Kulkarni and Mr. Girish Sangle. They explained the innovative ideas of Ferrocement construction and also explained the videos on ferrocement design and construction. They also informed participants about availability of huge potential for the precast industry for the fresh engineers after their graduation for becoming entrepreneurs.

    The workshop ended with distribution of certificate to the participant. The workshop was fruitful as the students gained new innovative ideas of designs and techniques of ferrocement construction where they have a chance for becoming an entrepreneur and starting a small business or taking-up contracts using the above ferrocement technology.

  • Rally on NSS Day

    Rally on NSS Day

    On the occasion of NSS Day, 24th September, 2019 NSS Unit of Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology organized social events for the enthusiastic students to come forward and contribute for a well-being. There were rally including Cleanliness and plastic management. The main purpose of this programme was to create awareness among the students regarding plastic management and its benefits. Therefore to create awareness, The NSS UNIT of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce conducted a rally. To stop the use of plastic, campaign led by 34 NSS volunteers peaked with a rally around campus. Holding banners and placards on the theme “Be safe to earth, reduce the use of plastic. NSS Volunteers were heard shouting slogans in English, Hindi and Garo like, ‘No More Plastic’ and ‘plastic hatao duniya bachao’ and ‘Sabhi Rogo ki Bas Ek Dawai, Ghar me Rakho Saaf Safai’.

  • Nutrition Camp

    Nutrition Camp

    Continuing with our mission of spreading love, NSS PHCET visited Chinchmol, Borgaon, Karjat on the 21st September, 2019 with 25 NSS volunteers and 3 faculty co-ordinators. The volunteers spent quality time with the people of chinchmal place within the home which provides education, healthcare, nutrition, clothing and most importantly love and support to the homeless people. It was an enriching experience for the entire team. Essentials like toiletries like sanitary napkins were distributed among the girls and also distributed cloth bags to the people of the village. The volunteers indulged in one to one interaction with the girls, getting an insight into their daily lives and their experiences there, trying to relax them a bit and listening to the struggles they had endured. Volunteers had a gala time playing games with them and got an opportunity to relive their own childhood. Finally, some toffees were distributed among the girls as tokens of our love. The smiles on their vibrant faces were our reward for the day.

    The importance of the nutrition were told to the people of chinchmal place by NSS volunteers along with Ms. Rekha Dhawan. Like Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, our diet can help us to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce our risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer) and promote our overall health. If we don’t take good nutrition then the poor nutrition can contribute to stress, tiredness and our capacity to do work and overtime, it can contribute to the risk of developing some illnesses and other health issues such as high blood pressure. Therefore Informative charts on nutrition and wellness were put up and explained to all the people.

  • Blood Donation Camp

    Blood Donation Camp

    Donating blood is a vital way to help save lives. Along with helping saving lives, there are a number of reasons why donating blood is important. A single donation can save three lives. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person. Therefore to create awareness, NSS unit, The Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with The Rotract Club of Patalganga conducted a Blood Donation Camp in the premises on 19th September, 2019. There was an overwhelming response from donors, around 350+ Blood Donors donated 350ml – 450ml of the blood. A certificate of appreciation and refreshment was given to each donor as a token of gratitude. The slogan for the Blood Donation Camp was “A single pint can save three lives. A single gesture can create a million smiles”.

    48 NSS volunteers, volunteered the event and also donated the blood. They also encouraged students and faculty members to donate blood. Two blood banks were present for the event. After donor donates blood he was provided with immediate help by NSS volunteers by giving him tea, coffee, fruity and banana.

    All the Posters were judged by Prof. Asokan S. and Prof. R. D. More according to the criteria decided. Best two posters were awarded with prizes in the form of trophy and certificates. All other participants were also given the certificates. The programme concluded at 4:00 p.m. with some guidelines given by the judge for participating and doing good work for technical programmes.

    Industrial Visit to Center for Invention, Innovation and Incubation (CIII), Kharghar

    The CIII has been setup by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, an Indian educational organisation founded by Karmveer Bhaurao Patil in partnership with Science and Technology Park University of Pune (Scitech Park), a leading technology business incubator supported by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Tata Technologies Ltd., a well-known global engineering service provider, with a multi-pronged approach for developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem through ‘Skill Training’, ‘Employment Enhancement’, Research & Development’, ‘Innovation’ and ‘Incubation’ in an ultramodern state of the art facility.

    Automobile Engineering

    Center for Invention, Innovation and Incubation (CIII), Kharghar is one of the four such Centers being built by Science and Technology Park, Pune and Tata Technologies with an aim to provide high end facilities and support to Engineers, promoting the spirit of Entrepreneurship and supporting technology Start-ups.

    The main objectives of CIII Centers will be to:

    • Help innovators to develop new products
    • Promote technology start-ups
    • Provide high end industrial training to increase chances of good quality jobs
    • Provide co-working space for young entrepreneurs
    • Provide strong mentorship to those who want to invent new products and also to those who want to setup their own companies

    The CIII will also be a platform for innovation and R&D, not just for new innovators and startup companies, but also for local industries and SMEs to extend their R&D activities, whereby reducing their cost and space requirements for undertaking R&D activities and to overcome their business challenges. The centre thus becomes a shared R&D facility for all local industries and enables them to develop new products and service offerings in the market.

    Industrial Visit was organized at CIII, KLharghar on 30th August, 2019 for final year students of Automobile. Dr. S. S. Pawar, Head, Automobile and Mr. Vaibhav Bhagat (Class Coordinator of B.E. Automobile) shared the responsibility for successfully conducting the event. A total of 27 students participated in this event. The visit was organized to make student familiar with working of Automobile systems and also aware about facilities provided for young entrepreneurs.

EXTC. This seminar was delivered by Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Associate professor, Department of EXTC guided the students for technical report and research paper writing.
