He explained various electrical courses required for students to improve their technical skills.     Recent Developments in Industrial Engineering:
    With the improvement in the economic scenario, there have been various investments in various sectors of the economy. The M&A activity in India increased 53.3 per cent to US$ 77.6 billion in 2017 while private equity (PE) deals reached US$ 24.4 billion. Some of the important recent developments in Indian economy are as follows:

    • Exports from India increased 4.32 per cent year-on-year to US$ 92.33 billion in April-May 2019.
    • Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) stood at 51.40 in July 2019, showing expansion in the sector.
    • Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) activity in the country has reached US$ 41.6 billion in first half of 2019 (Jan-June).
    • Income tax collection in the country reached Rs 2.50 lakh crore (US$ 35.88 billion) between April-November 2018.
    • In the first six months of 2019, eight companies held IPOs, raising as much as Rs 5,509 crore (US$ 0.79 billion).
    • India’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) equity inflows reached US$ 436.47 billion between April 2000 and June 2019, with maximum contribution from services, computer software and hardware, telecommunications, construction, trading and automobiles.
    • India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 2 per cent year-on-year June 2019.
    • Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rose moderated to 3.15 per cent in July 2019 from 3.18 per cent in June 2019.
    • Around 10.8 million jobs were created in India in 2017.
    • India has improved its ranking in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report by 23 spots over its 2017 ranking and is ranked 77 among 190 countries in 2019 edition of the report.
    • India is expected to have 100,000 startups by 2025, which will create employment for 3.25 million people and US$ 500 billion in value, as per Mr. T V Mohan Das Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education.
    • The World Bank has stated that private investments in India is expected to grow by 8.8 per cent in FY 2018-19 to overtake private consumption growth of 7.4 per cent, and thereby drive the growth in India’s gross domestic product (GDP) in FY 2018-19.
    • India is expected to retain its position as the world’s leading recipient of remittances in 2018, with total remittances touching US$ 80 billion, according to Word Bank’s Migration and Development Brief.

    Abstract of Talk: HVAC Industry: Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is the technology of indoor and vehicular environmental comfort. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality. HVAC system design is a subdiscipline of mechanical engineering, based on the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. “Refrigeration” is sometimes added to the field’s abbreviation, as HVAC&R or HVACR or “ventilation” is dropped, as in HACR (as in the designation of HACR-rated circuit breakers).

    Ventilating or ventilation (the V in HVAC) is the process of exchanging or replacing air in any space to provide high indoor air quality which involves temperature control, oxygen replenishment, and removal of moisture, odors, smoke, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Ventilation removes unpleasant smells and excessive moisture, introduces outside air, keeps interior building air circulating, and prevents stagnation of the interior air.

    Ventilation includes both the exchange of air to the outside as well as circulation of air within the building. It is one of the most important factors for maintaining acceptable indoor air quality in buildings. Methods for ventilating a building may be divided into mechanical/forced and natural types.

    Current Scenario of HVAC Industry:
    HVAC plays an important role in the design of medium to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers, onboard vessels, and in marine environments such as aquariums, where safe and healthy building conditions are regulated with respect to temperature and humidity, using fresh air from outdoors. HVAC systems have become the required industry standard for construction of new buildings.

    Now days most modern buildings use energy-efficient HVAC systems, as a result of rapid growth in the construction and real estate markets worldwide which has a positive influence on the market. Urbanisation and industrialisation have been on the rise in developing countries. There is an increased demand in the HVAC systems due to new constructions in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

    Monitoring systems help in tracking the energy consumption of a building while intelligent technology controls the energy output of an HVAC system. For instance, fans used in the heating system of computing systems are switched on only after the computing system reaches the set temperature, making the system energy efficient.

    The key growth areas of the HVAC market are the growing population and industrialisation, rising sales of domestic and commercial buildings, increasing construction expenditure, and the expanding purchasing power of the middle class.

    The non-residential users of HVAC systems are healthcare and educational institutions, manufacturing and industrial buildings, as well as offices and retail stores. Driving the growth of HVAC systems are the increase in construction activities rapid industrialisation, as well as the need for enhancing energy efficiency in buildings. The major players in the global HVAC market are Carrier, Daikin Industries, Ingersoll-Rand, Johnson Controls, and LG. The other prominent companies in the market are AB Electrolux, Bosch Thermotechnik, Fujitsu, GD Midea, Gree Electric Appliances, Haier, Hitachi, Lennox International, Nortek, Paloma Industries, Samsung, Siemens, and Vaillant Group.

    Site Visit to Water Treatment Plant, Bhokarpada

    A Site Visit for the Third Year students to Water Treatment Plant, Bhokarpada was organized by Department of Civil Engineering on 5th October, 2019 along with faculty member Mr. Harshal Pathak. The Water supply to the Navi Mumbai city is provided from Bhokarpada treatment plant situated at village Bhokarpada. Bhokarpada Water treatment plant has a capacity of 450 MLD. Source of water is Morbe Dam at a distance 5.4 km. The plant operates for 24 hours and 300 MLD water is being treated and supplied to the city. After visiting an industry students can gain a combined knowledge about both theory and practical.

    What can Python do?

    • Python can be used on a server to create web applications.
    • Python can be used alongside software to create workflows.
    • Python can connect to database systems. It can also read and modify files.
    • Python can be used to handle big data and perform complex mathematics.
    • Python can be used for rapid prototyping, or for production-ready software development.

    Why Python?

    • Python works on different platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, etc).
    • Python has a simple syntax similar to the English language.
    • Python has syntax that allows developers to write programs with fewer lines than some other programming languages.
    • Python runs on an interpreter system, meaning that code can be executed as soon as it is written. This means that prototyping can be very quick.
    • Python can be treated in a procedural way, an object-orientated way or a functional way.

    Good to know

    • The most recent major version of Python is Python 3, which we shall be using in this tutorial. However, Python 2, although not being updated with anything other than security updates, is still quite popular.
    • In this tutorial Python will be written in a text editor. It is possible to write Python in an Integrated Development Environment, such as Thonny, Pycharm, Netbeans or Eclipse which are particularly useful when managing larger collections of Python files.

    Python Syntax compared to other programming languages

    • Python was designed for readability, and has some similarities to the English language with influence from mathematics.
    • Python uses new lines to complete a command, as opposed to other programming languages which often use semicolons or parentheses.
    • Python relies on indentation, using whitespace, to define scope; such as the scope of loops, functions and classes. Other programming languages often use curly-brackets for this purpose.

    Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by the Government of India to solve the problems of sanitation and waste management in India by ensuring hygiene across the country. The main purpose of this programme was to create awareness among the students regarding Cleanliness and its benefits. Therefore to create awareness, The Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with The Rotract Club of Patalganga conducted a rally on Swachh Bharat on 2nd October, 2019. The cleanliness awareness campaign led by 20 NSS volunteers peaked with a rally around town. Holding banners and placards on the theme “Clean India, Happy and Healthy India”, the volunteers began the rally from Janta Vidyalaya School Mohopada, Gram Panchayat Wasambe (Mohopada) via the main road. The rally took nearly an hour.

Onlookers in crowded areas along the route were taken surprise at the enthusiasm of the student community.

    Overview of the Company:
    Adani Dahanu Thermal Power Station
    Adani – Dahanu Thermal Power Station (ADTPS), consisting two units of 250 MW, is one of the best power generation plants in the country, which commenced its commercial operations in January 1996. Recognized with innumerable awards, this power plant is known for its distinctive features that set it apart from others in terms of technological innovation, superior performance and continuous sustainability for a longer period. ADTPS is located around 120 km north of Mumbai along Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail line.

    Overview of the plant

    Adani – Dahanu Thermal Power Station has implemented integrated management systems (IMS) in its processes and is certified for quality management, environment management, occupational health and safety assessment studies, social accountability management, information security management, energy management and accreditation for ADTPS coal testing laboratory.

    • The first power station in the country with two units of 250 MW.
    • Commercial operation started in January 1996.
    • Employs a blend of washed coal and imported coal as its source of fuel.

    Recognitions:
    ADTPS has received Copyright for three innovative works from Copyright Office of Government of India, New Delhi.

    • Reduction in Overhauling Time – Implementation of Work procedure has ensured considerable reduction in overhauling period to 15 days. Thereby saving of Generation revenue equivalent to at least 10 to 15 days.
    • Energy Deviation Report – An effective tool for energy consumption monitoring and optimization. This helps operation personnel to utilize energy efficient equipments to cater economical generation.
    • Improvement of Coal Mill Performance by Auto Operation – Software developed by ADTPS team by studying the correlation between air and coal flow. This logic has helped to avoid undue variation in load and other process parameters even during very heavy rain.
