Workshop on “Electrical Wiring” 2023

The One Day Workshop on electrical wiring was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering and it commenced at 10:00 a.m. on 28th January, 2023 in the workshop Lab, PHCET. Prof. Aamir Shaikh introduced the speaker Mr. R. D. More, M.E. in Electrical Engineering having vast experience in the field. The Head of the Department, Ms. Pranita Chavan felicitated the speaker.

The speaker took over the session with an introductory focus on the importance of Electrical Wiring. The workshop was specially organized for enhancing skills of all the Lab technicians of Pillai HOCL Campus. The workshop helped the participants to learn about basics of electrical system, wiring connection, construction and operation of motor and Electricity bill calculation. The session started with the basic essential topics. Key concepts of wiring were covered.

Following topics were covered in workshop
- Details of connection from utility to house are demonstrated
- Different types of wiring connection like stair case wiring, Godown wiring
- Different types of fuses Switchboard, Fuse and MCBs working and ratings
- Concept of Earthing and its importance
Afternoon session consisted where all technicians were given a clear idea of the Wiring safety and Precautions. The session concluded with a question answer session at 4:00 p.m. There were around 12 participants for the Electrical Wiring. Also a feedback session was taken from all the participants.

Webinar on “Scope of Engineering Graduates as Techno-Managers”

Department of Civil Engineering conducted webinar on “Scope of Engineering Graduates as Techno-Managers” on Saturday, 28th January, 2023 at 11.30 a.m. Total 45 participants from S.E., T.E. and B.E. participated in this webinar. The webinar was highly informative for Students and research Scholars.

The objective of the webinar was to provide an in depth knowledge and to develop awareness of career opportunities in techno-managerial area. The expert, Prof. Ravindranadh Chowdary K, is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI and possesses 15 years of experience. He completed his B. Tech in Civil Engineering from JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad, a Master’s in Construction Technology and Management from IIT – Madras and pursuing Ph.D. from IIT Delhi. He is currently working as Assistant Professor in NICMAR, Hyderabad for the last 6 years. Before this, he worked in M/s. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction for 6 years in site execution, planning, tendering, and contracts. Prof. Ravindranadh’s research interests are C&D waste management, Project management, and contracts. Dr. Venkatesan has been awarded a Ph.D. from the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT-Madras in the area of Construction Management (2010). Dr. Venkatesan has pursued his Master’s in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource & System Management (2000) and Bachelors in Civil Engineering (1988). Dr. Venkatesan has been associated with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) in numerous capacities for a period of 27 years and took a Voluntary Retirement (VRS), while he was serving as Executive Engineer.

The webinar was fruitful as the participants gained the knowledge about how concrete behaves. All the participants were issued E-certificate.

Elocution Competition 2023

Department of Electronics & Computer, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology (PHCET), Rasayani in association with IETE Students Forum (ISF) organized Elocution Competition on the occasion of Republic day. All faculty members and 80 students from Electronics and Computer Science department and other branches attended this program.

The event started at 2:00 p.m. with National Anthem. Judges were welcomed and felicitated by faculty members of Electronics and Computer Science department. Later, Head of Department Dr. Mansi Subhedar addressed the gathering and announced the rules of the elocution competition. The participants were allowed to speak on one topic of their choice for duration of 7-8 min. Parameters like Content, Confidence Gesture and Presentation were set as criteria for judgement. The competition commenced with the introduction of the participants. Each participant delivered their level best performance and kept the show alive with their speeches. The audience were also given a chance to speak and add up their opinions.

The Elocution competition concluded with praises for all the participants and encouragement for all the other students to step forward in such events in the future and by declaring the winners of the competition. The evaluation was done by Dr. Manvendra Vashistha, Head of Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Vaibhav Bhagat, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Suma Lalit, Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities.

The winners of this event were Rishab Kumar (first position), Utkarsha Tambe (second position), Tanisha Paras (Third position). Winners were awarded with prizes and Certificate of Achievement by judges. Participants were also given Certificate of Participation. The event ended by thanking judges, all the faculty members and students for being part of the event. Sanchit Palwankar was head of the event. The event flow was managed by Janhavi Shirke, Sakshi Deshmukh and Sanika Patil. Rules and instructions were designed by Sakshi Deshmukh and Shruti Urankar. Posters of the event were designed by Akshansh Badhwar. Venue was arranged by Mandar Korde. Some beautiful moments of the event were captured by Rajesh Potdar and Rohit Thombare. Head of Department Dr. Mansi Subhedar and all faculty members appreciated student’s efforts.

Hands-on Workshop on “Robotics”

The workshop was conducted for on manually controlled robots and automatic robots. Speaker of the workshop was Prof. Mithun G. Nair, Department of Electronics and Computer Science. Total 40 Students attended this workshop.

Workshop started at 10:15 a.m. with introduction by Prof. Mithun G. Nair. Introduction to Robotics, components required for manually controlled robots and automatic robots were explained.

Hands on training session started in second slot. The robotics workshop was well-received by the participants, students found the content engaging and informative. At the end, participants have completed the given assignment of making manually controlled robots and automatic robots.

The robotics workshop was a success, providing participants with a solid foundation in robotics and inspiring them to explore this exciting field further. Feedback from the participants indicated that they would like to see more advanced workshops in the future. The IETE Student Forum thanked all participants who have actively joined in the workshop and assisted in one way or another for the initiatives to spread the robotics education. IETE student forum expressed gratitude to Prof. Mithun G. Nair for their role in ensuring the success of the workshop.

One Day Hands on Training Program on “Auto CAD” was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering for non-Teaching staff members. Mr. Aditya Shinde was a Resource Person for this activity and Mrs. Ashwini Shinde was a coordinator for this activity. Mr. Aditya Shinde has over 8 years of using and teaching AutoCAD to Engineering Students.

No Code No Bugs

A technical but not so technical event was organised by the GDSC PHCET team for the freshies of the coding world. The target students of the event were first year students of the engineering department. Near about 80 students attended the event in offline mode.

The portfolio making tutorial was given by the lead to the students. The students were interested in the topic and participated in it. Time limit was set for the participants to make the portfolio. The top 3 best participants were awarded with the certificates by the faculty coordinator Ms. Kajal of GDSC PHCET.

Students were interested to know more about the club and participate in future such activities.

Session on “Fundamentals of Compose”

On 8th January, 2023, the Google Developer Student Club PHCET hosted an engaging, entertaining, and educational session. The event’s focus was Jetpack Compose, and Mr. Adit Lal, a Google developer with extensive experience in Android, spoke at the event. This session was attended by more than 150 students from several GDSCs.

The event started off with a lively interactive session with the audience, during which many students took pleasure in creating new contacts. Mr. Adit Lal led the students beginning with fundamentals of Compose to advance level. A lot of Q & A sessions were included in the online class to keep the students interested.

Each and every participant received a certificate of participation. With a vote of appreciation, the event came to an end.

Training Program on “General Machine Servicing and Maintenance”

One Day Training Program on “General Machine Servicing and Maintenance” was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering for non-Teaching staff members. Mr. Atul Jade and Mr. Vaibhav Bhagat were appointed as Resource Persons for this activity. The primary responsibility for the care and maintenance of all equipment in laboratory, machine shop and workshop rests with concerned in-charge non-Teaching staff. Thus, staff should understand how their equipment works, what its limitations are, and what it can and cannot do. Both resource persons explained a systematic approach to understand the principle of working and functionality of a machine. The importance of machine manuals was also explained to participants.

Mr. Atul Jade who has worked as Workshop Superintend previously explained the need of basic care, servicing and preventive maintenance for machines like lathe machine, milling machine, vertical drilling machine etc. Demonstration of conduction of general servicing was given to participants.

Mr. Vaibhav Bhagat who is currently working as Assistant Professor and Workshop Superintendent in PHCET explained breakdown maintenance aspects of machineries available. How to predict breakdown and prevent steps were explained along with how to carry out minor repairs of machineries. Mr. Vaibhav Bhagat also explained facts and reasons which can lead to major breakdown along with how to identify major breakdown. Mr. Bhagat also explained steps to be carried out in case breakdown occurs if the machine is in operation and what all are safety measures to be followed in such a case.

The session ended with a Question Answer session and finally concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. G. V. Patil, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department.
