STTP on “Post Covid Challenges in Infrastructural and Environmental Engineering”

In commemoration of Golden Jubilee year of Mahatma Education Society, Department of Civil Engineering in association with Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Mumbai Chapter, Association of Structural Rehabilitation, Mumbai Chapter and Institution of Engineers, India, Belapur local chapter conducted a Short-Term Training Program on Post Covid Challenges in Infrastructural and Environmental Engineering from 8th to 11th June, 2020. Eminent speakers from academic, various field of civil and construction industry delivered their lecture. Effect of Covid-19 pandemic on construction industry were discussed. More than 500 participants from all over India registered.

The sessions were conducted by eminent speakers through google meet and there was live streaming through YouTube. The registration link is as follows https://forms.gle/WMyFtU6UhitTanJL8. The link was shared with students and faculty all over India and the total registration for the program was slightly less than 500. Link for each session was shared with registered participants via mail and WhatsApp group. Participants provided their feedback everyday through the link shared with them. Certificate was awarded to all participants who attended the sessions and gave feedback.

Objectives
The online STTP was organised with the following objectives:

To enhance the knowledge of students and faculty in the field of infrastructure development and environmental engineering.
To prepare the participants to overcome the challenges of unforeseen situations of lockdown and covid 19 pandemic.
To judiciously utilise the time during the lockdown for gaining knowledge.

Faculty Seminar Series 2020 – EXTC Engg.

Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering organized faculty seminar series from 11th to 15th June, 2020. All the faculty members presented their views on different topics of their interest. The online sessions were taken using Google meet app.

Topic: Machine learning and applications
Various machine learning algorithms were discussed. Applications of supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning were discussed in detail.

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor is the basic element of VLSI Design. CMOS gate design, static logic circuits, dynamic logic circuits were discussed.

Topic: Image Processing
Need and different applications of image processing were explained. The applications of image processing like Remote sensing, Transmission and encoding, Machine/Robot vision, Color processing, Pattern recognition, Video processing, Microscopic Imaging , etc. were discussed.

Ms. Priya Tambe:
Topic: Satellite Communication
Basics of satellite system, its evolution and different orbits of satellite were discussed. Different frequency range for satellite communication for different applications was discussed.

Mr. Jayesh Rane:
Topic: Programming Pedagogy of C Language
Seminar aimed to motivate the participants to inculcate the Programming skills and also to master the art of Programming over the period of time. Programming concepts are made easier and explained in detail considering the participants from non programming background also.

Mr. Mithun Nair:
Topic: Asynchronous Adiabatic Logic
Adiabatic Logic styles in low power VLSI design have been examined for many years to achieve predictable low power design success. Adiabatic circuits are very low power circuits compared with CMOS logic circuits. To get out of the problems related to clock generation and synchronous clock routing a new solution namely asynchronous adiabatic logic was discussed.

Topic: Arduino Programming
Basics of Arduino Programming were discussed. Sample applications using Arduino were explained in detail.

Mr. Pratik Mhatre:
Topic: Antenna Design
Different types of antennas, and design of patch antenna, different design constraints and simulation of patch using HFSS simulation software was discussed.

Mr. Shashikant Renushe:
Topic: Introduction to Mechatronics
Fundamentals of mechatronic system, design of various mechatronics system were discussed in detail. Role of PLC in mechatronics system design was demonstrated.

Faculty Development Program on “Electronic System Design, Modeling & Simulation”

Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering organized 3 Days Faculty Development Program on “Electronic System Design, Modeling & Simulation” from 8th – 10th June, 2020. The FDP was organized in Association with Entuple Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune and IETE, Navi Mumbai. 135 faculty members from various engineering colleges across Maharashtra registered for the program. FDP mainly aimed at electronic design and software tools used for the same. FDP started with opening remarks by Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Head of the Department followed by introduction of the session speaker, Dr. Sudhakar Mande by Ms. Rekha Dhawan, FDP coordinator. Dr. Mande delivered session on “Overview of VLSI Technology”. He started with the basics of VLSI and also explained design process. The second session was conducted by Mr. Zarrar Khan, Assistant Professor at AIKTC, Panvel. He demonstrated Microwind software used for VLSI design.

On second day, Mr. Avinash Keshav, Sr. Application Engineer at Entuple Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune delivered session. Entuple Technologies provide solution to different sectors such as Aerospace and Defense, academia, Automotive, Industrial Equipment and rotating measurement. At Entuple Mr. Avinash Keshav supports Cadence tool which is EDA tool in industries. He explained Cadence based Semi-custom Design flow and Cadence based Full-custom Design flow used in VLSI design.

Third day had session of Mr. Kamlesh Kumar who is working as Sr. Application Engineer at Entuple Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune At Entuple Mr. Kamlesh Kumar supports is also involved in technical support for OrCAD P-Spice, PCB and MITS Prototyping solutions for R & D, Corporate, Commercial and Academic market. He explained Electronic Devices and Circuit Simulation using OrCAD tool and PCB design using OrCAD PCB flow. The FDP was concluded with vote of thanks to all the participants, Session speakers and Management, Mahatma Education Society.

An energy system is a system primarily designed to supply energy to end-users. The concept of an energy system is evolving as a new regulations, technologies, and practices enter into service – for example, emissions trading, the development of smart grids, and the greater use of energy demand management, respectively were explained.

Topic: High Voltage DC Transmission System
Various methods of transmission of energy were described. How the High Voltage DC Transmission is better than others were discussed. Also, the components for the transmission and overall overview of the DC Transmission was explained.

Topic: Microgrid
A microgrid is a small-scale power grid that can operate independently or collaboratively with other small power grids. The whole grid connection, transmission and utilisation of the energy was been described in the session.

Topic: Condition Monitoring of Power Transformer
Power transformers are important and expensive components in the electric power system. To protect this power transformer, we use monitoring system. An overview was described of how Monitoring systems can help to decrease the transformer life cycle cost and how to increase the high level of availability and reliability.

Topic: Microcontroller and its application
Microcontroller is a compressed microcomputer manufactured to control the functions of embedded systems in office machines, robots, home appliances, motor vehicles and several other gadgets. Various application in the fields of automobile, aeronautics, space, robotics, electronics, defence application, mobile communications, rail transport, industrial processing, and medical were described.

A control system manages, commands, directs, or regulates the behaviour of other devices or systems using control loops. Various example of control system was described, a simplest example described was Traffic lights.

The power generation planning should be checking the availability of the source of energy and check the characteristics of the source of energy. The adequate reliability will depend on the size, type of power plant, quality of generation. The whole process of planning and generating based on planning was described.

Webinar on “Steel Structure Design using TEKLA”

Department of Civil Engineering had conducted a Free Webinar on “Design OF Steel Structure using TEKLA”on 6th June, 2020 (Saturday), at 11 a.m. to 12 noon in association with MOU partner CADD Centre Thane. Ms. Sowmya. K. R., Head IID (CADD Centre, Chennai) was the speaker. There were about 344 registrations from various states out of which 104 have attended. The webinar was coordinated by Mr. Sandeep Gujjar.

TEKLA allows structural drafters and engineers to design a building structure and its components using 3D modelling, 2D drawings and access building information. Some of its applications include modelling stadiums, offshore structures, plants, factories, bridges, skyscrapers, residential buildings, etc. Mode of conduct was through Microsoft Team with no registration fees for Civil Engineering students of S.E., T.E., B.E. passed out students and faculty members.

World Environmental Day Quiz

A Quiz was organized on the occasion of World Environmental Day for students, faculty, research person and industry persons of Civil Engineering, B.Sc. Environmental Engineering, First Year Engineering, Diploma students and Higher Secondary Students (Science Stream) across all polytechnic, degree colleges and all Junior Colleges to get engaged in academics during ongoing lockdown due to the pandemic COVID 19 by Department of Civil Engineering. The quiz titled “World Environmental Day Quiz” started on 31st May, 2020 and ended on 5th June, 2020.

A total of 1205 participants including students, faculty, research person and industry persons from more than 40 institutes had participated in it throughout the country. The registration was free of cost. The topics covered are Basics of environmental Engineering, Water and Wastewater treatment, Air and Noise pollution. The Quiz had 20 questions of 1 mark each. The students who obtained 40 percent of marks have been provided with the E-certificate.

The response from the students was also exciting. Maximum number of participants attended the quiz with good dedication. It has been observed that the participation was from all the. The quiz was coordinated by Ms. Apurva Deshpande and Mr. Harshal Pathak. Head of the Department Mr. Raju Narwade and all faculty members of the department worked together for successful completion of quiz.
