    Quiz on “Test Your Knowledge in Civil Engineering”

    A Quiz was organized for students of Civil Engineering across all polytechnic and degree colleges to get engaged in academics during ongoing lockdown due to the pandemic COVID 19 by Department of Civil Engineering. The quiz titled “Test Your Knowledge in Civil Engineering” started on 12th and ended on 15th May, 2020.

    A total of 1288 students from more than 30 institutes had participated in it throughout the country. The registration was free of cost. The topics covered the entire civil engineering core subjects. The Quiz had 25 questions of 1 mark each. The students who obtained 50 percent of marks have been provided with the certificate.

    The response from the students was also exciting. Maximum number of participants attended the quiz with good dedication. It has been observed that the participation was from all the semesters. The quiz was coordinated by Ms. Steffi Stephen and Ms. Ashwini P. Head of the Department Mr. Raju Narwade and all faculty members of the department worked together for successful completion of quiz.

    The objective of the webinar was to provide an insight into revolutionary ideas of green building and sustainability. Mr. Bhavesh Mehta, (Deputy General Manager, Engineering Design at Reliance Industries Limited, Navi Mumbai) is Core committee member of Confederation of Indian Industries, Indian Green Building Council, Mumbai chapter was invited as a resource person. Mr. Bhavesh Mehta delivered a seminar on green building and sustainability and also explained about availability of huge potential for the green building industry for the fresh engineers after their graduation for becoming entrepreneurs. At the end question-answer session was conducted on green building and sustainability. The webinar was fruitful as the participants gained new innovative ideas of designs and techniques of green buildings.

  • Quiz Contest on “Fundamentals in Electronics and Telecommunication”

    Quiz Contest on “Fundamentals in Electronics and Telecommunication”

    To make the best use of the lockdown period due to pandemic because of COVID 19, the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering had successfully conducted an Online Quiz Competition on “Fundamentals in Electronics and Telecommunication” from 10th to 14th May, 2020.

    From more than 50 institutes, a total of 5045 students attempted the quiz successfully out of which 760 students are from polytechnic and the remaining from engineering colleges.

    The quiz had 30 questions of 1 mark each. After successful completion of the quiz an e-certificate was issued to the candidates on their registered email id. The quiz was co-ordinated by Mrs. Priya Tambe and Mr. Upendra Patil with technical support from Mr. Jayesh Rane. Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Head of the Department, EXTC, and all faculty members of the EXTC department worked together for successful quiz conduction.

    Total 46 participants from various institute of Mumbai university attended the webinar. The webinar was highly informative for faculty, students and research scholars. The webinar was fruitful as the participants gained the knowledge about futuristic engineering. All the participants were issued E-certificate.

  • MES initiatives during the Covid-19 Lockdown

    Dear All,

    I hope that all of you are doing well during this difficult time. This is a great challenge for all of us but I am proud to say that all MES Pillai Group faculty and students have been contributing to the nation in many ways in the past month. I just wanted to give an update on the various activities undertaken by MES institutions to tackle and make the most of the current situation with Covid-19. Here is a summary of the different initiatives.

    Academic

    1. Many of our faculty have transitioned and are conducting regular courses as well as expert sessions over the internet using Zoom and Google Meet. If you use your MES email ids students and faculty can conduct meetings of more than 45 mins with over 300 participants on Zoom. I highly encourage all faculty to reach out to students over these platforms if you have not already done so.
    2. MES has tied up with Coursera to complete unlimited free certifications of Coursera courses upto September 2020. Students can take courses from some of the best faculty and some of the best Universities in the world. So far over 1000 students have registered for different courses.     3. To help students and faculty deal with stress or anxiety, MES counsellor Yvette lee is available for students to speak with. Interested students and faculty may contact her at 9819812019

    Social:
    MES faculty and students have engaged with the local communities to help with the following activities.

    1. MES faculty have used our in house 3D printers and laser cutting facilities for the preparation and distribution of personal face masks for police and people involved in public activities.
    2. Distribution of food and edible oil to daily wage earners and adivasis in Wakdi village.
    3. Developed a website for Navi Mumbai police for the public to apply for curfew passes.
    4. Our students have volunteered for different activities such as food distribution, distribution of PPE, helping elderly get food and medicine in and around Navi Mumbai.
    5. Set up a scholarship fund for students who will be impacted by Covid-19 so that their studies may continue uninterrupted.

    Research and Innovation

    1. MES faculty have studied the effect Covid-19 on the Indian economy using nightlights. The work is highlighted in the Bloomberg quint Article below https://tinyurl.com/ukuks5p
    2. MES faculty are also working on developing a wireless sensor measurement system that can be used to track and predict Covid-19 outbreaks before they happen.
    3. Three student groups and one faculty group are working of development of an App to help farmers to reach out to customers of their farm product. This is an initiative of MHRD AICTE to help farmers in this lockdown situation. You can check out their work here

    I hope that our faculty and students will continue to work towards building a better India during and after this crisis. We are also interested in the work of our alumni during this period.     Quiz to Test Quantitative Skills of Students

    An online quiz for second year and third year students of Computer engineering and IT department was organized on 11th May, 2020 at 11 a.m. The motto of this Quiz was to Test the Quantitative Skills of Students which will benefit them for placements. So total 114 students registered for this quiz out of which 100 students attempted it. The passing criteria of 50% were achieved by 77 students. Along with the help of faculty co-ordinator Ms. Snehal Shinde and Ms. Pooja Pemare quiz was conducted successfully

    Details of Resource Person: Dr. Rajesh H. Kulkarni is Director of Smt Indira Gandhi College of Engineering. Prior to SIGCE he played various roles such as Asst. Director, Vice Principal, Accreditation coordinator, HOD of Computer Engineering and ME Coordinator in his previous organizations. In a career spanning more than 23 years he authored four books, published research papers in SCOPUS/SCI indexed Journals and published six Patents. He has research interest in HCI, Software Engineering, Data Sciences, Machine Intelligence and IOT.

    The webinar gave insights of Patenting and various procedures for granting patents, requirements placed on the patentee, and the extent of the exclusive rights of Intellectual property claim according to National laws and International Agreements. The significance of having IPR for the owner and the legal rights to exclude others from making, using, selling and importing an invention was focussed. Various patenting forms and various methods to apply patents was also discussed. Session was an interactive session in the end and solved all the queries from the participants regarding Patenting issues.

    Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. J. Nalavade. He expressed gratitude to all for making this a successful event.

    Expert Talk: The guest speaker took over the session with introduction of renewable energy resources and its importance. The session started with the basic essential topics. Key concepts of drive train technology was explained in brief. Sir bisected electric vehicle in various engineering field explaining computer , mechanical, electrical and electronics knowledge. Sir explained drive train topologies and fuel efficiency analysis with DC and AC machines for propulsion. Energy management strategies and energy efficiency plays important role in designing and modeling of drive trains. Various applications such as climate control and hybrid train was discussed. Students responded quickly to the speaker and one of the students Vinay Patil was appreciated for his quick and accurate response. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the speaker.

    Faculty Development Program on “Networking – Routing and Switching Essentials”

    Department of Computer Engineering of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology organized One Week Faculty Development Program on “Networking – Routing and Switching Essentials”. FDP was organized from 4th – 6th May, 2020. Total 57 faculty members from MES institutions participated in the FDP. Participants were enlightened with the knowledge of resource person for the FDP Dr. Madhumita Chatterjee Principal, PHCET about the networking field. She is M.Tech and Ph.D. in Computer Science and engineering from IIT Mumbai. Her specialization is the Networking and Security and has more than 27 years of teaching experience. She has delivered several talks in on Networking, Cyber Security and Digital Forensics in several colleges of Mumbai and Pune also has more than 65 paper published in this domain in reputed journals and conference.
