    STTP on “Composites: Fracture Toughness, NDE & Failure Analysis”

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology invites faculty of AICTE approved institutes and participants from industries & R&D organisations for an online one week AICTE sponsored Certificate Short Term Training Program on “Composites: Fracture Toughness, NDE and Failure Analysis” scheduled during 18th to 23rd January, 2021. On successful completion, participants will be awarded E-certificates. The objective is to provide training in emerging areas of Polymer, Polymer blends and Composites. It intends to address issues related to producing durable & damage tolerant composites based on Fracture Mechanics approach integrated with NDE & Failure analysis. The speakers are drawn from academia including IITs, Industries and R&D establishments of DRDO.

    (a) For Participants from AICTE recognized colleges: No registration fee will be charged from the teachers of AICTE recognized Engineering Colleges. (Restricted to 40 participants only)

    (b) Participants from industries and R&D organizations without registration fee (limited to 4 only)

    Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities organized a Program on ‘AICTE – Fitness Program’

    The Applied Sciences and Humanities Department organized a 5 Days fitness program under the aegis of Fit India Movement. A webinar session on ‘Yoga and Meditation’ began on 22nd December, 2020 through the virtual Google Meet platform. In all, there were 16 participants. The program was an effort to relieve faculty from stress by practicing various yoga Asana yogic and encourage them to live a fit and healthy lifestyle. This program was held in the evening as per the convenience of the faculty.

    On day one (22nd December, 2020), Dr. Vashishta delivered a talk on exceptional benefits of yoga on our Digestive, Respiratory, Circulatory, Nervous, Endocrine, Skeletal, Muscular, Immune and Lymphatic System, Urinary or Excretory System, Reproductive System and Integumentary System to promotes weight loss, cardiovascular fitness, muscle endurance.

    The second day of the yoga session (23rd December, 2020) began with different states of ‘Chitta’ and ‘Vritti’. Dr. Vashishtha unfolded the true meaning of yoga and illustrated how to control the tendencies of the Chitta and connect with the inner self.

    On the third day (24th December, 2020), Dr. Vashishtha delivered a high impact of yogic practices like Patanjali Yoga sutras, Niyama and Asana. He asserted that Yama helps to eradicate impurities from the mind and Niyama yoga helps in maintaining discipline in our lives.

    On day four (29th December,2020), Dr. Vashishtha addressed various stress developing factors in our day-to-day life, such as relationship challenges, children and their future, travelling, educational challenges, coping with work and lifestyle, old age and retirement, failing to overcome these situations might lead to stress and even death.

    On day five (5th January, 2021), Dr. Vashishta acquainted all the faculty members with Pranayama, a spiritual practice, achieved through ‘Yoga Sadhna’ and Meditation as effective techniques to release stress. He emphasized the effect of pranayama through mathematical calculation.

    Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with Pillai Group of Institution during Pandemic as a respect to Salute to our great Corona warriors struggling with all odds and standing with one heart for serving our fellowmen decided to go for Railway Beautification, spreading awareness through Wall painting was done along with staff and students announcing the program as “Tribute to Corona Warriors”.

    “A picture is worth a thousand words”. This is experienced by many people on social media every day but here we are talking about a bigger picture! Not just in terms of size but the awareness it’s able to spread. Many eyeballs find it captivating because of the creativity and fineness of its artist. Here, we are talking about Wall Paintings. Social media campaigns do help to spread awareness but the Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with Pillai Group of Institution chose a different path. With the help of artist Mr. Sadashiv, they opted to paint the walls of Panvel Railway Station and dedicate it to the corona warriors. For people to not forget their efforts these paintings were necessary. The more someone sees it, their subconscious mind reminds them of how doctors and healthcare workers thought of curing their patients first without worrying about their health. Thus, this psychological trick was only possible with the help of wall paintings as no one would’ve visited social media pages regularly to see such posters. Through this kind gesture, people from now onwards will have more respect for covid warriors.

    The Computer Engineering Department has an integral CSI student chapter known as CSI PHCET, which aims to enhance and develop students’ core skills mostly by organizing different workshops, competitions and events.

    CSI PHCET Student Chapter has organized an online webinar on “Ethical Hacking” on 30th November 2020. This workshop was conducted by Mr Roshan Thakur, Cyber Security Analyst Engineer with 2+ years of experience in Cyber IT Security field with IFF MH Cyber and Cyber Crime Helpline. He also worked with Maharashtra Cyber Police for AMBIS Government Project association with IFF as an intern.

    To make the best use of the lockdown period due to COVID 19 pandemic, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Department of Computer Engineering organized webinar on “Recent Trends in IoT” for students of PHCET on November 28, 2020. Participants were enlightened with the knowledge of resource person on basic concepts of IoT. Mrs. Anita Chaudhary was invited as the resource person for the webinar. She has 12 years teaching experience. Webinar was well received by students and they have highly benefited with experimented and knowledge given by speaker. The valuable exposure about the IoT and experimental demonstration was given to our students to understand basic concepts of IoT. Total 46 students participated in the session.

    Quiz Competition – Constitution Day 2020-21

    The quest for knowledge, like everything else of value, is not to be obtained easily. It must be worked for, studied for, thought for and more than that must be prayed for. To encourage the students to widen their knowledge on the Constitution of India.

    As, Constitution Day, also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas’, is celebrated in our country on 26th November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constitution of India declared India as a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic. It said justice for every Indian, liberty of thought and expression, equality and fraternity. It gives every Indian their fundamental rights as a Human.

    Since it was such a great achievement and a huge milestone had been reached, on the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, on the 19th November 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 26th November as the Constitution Day of India.

    The NSS Unit of PHCET had organized a online Quiz Competition to spread awareness about the importance of the Indian Constitution among the students. It was an enriching experience for the participants as in total 124 students and staff members participated in the competition. E-Certificates were distributed to all the participants.

    The students and staff members showcased their brilliance by answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, they participated actively. It was very informative and knowledge enriching competition for the participants along with the NSS volunteers.

Sir is pursuing MBA in Operations from ITM University. Sir has vast experience of more than 10 years and worked as various post of Quality Engineer, Auditor etc. Prof. Aamir Shaikh introduced the Speaker and Session started.

    Expert Talk:
    Speaker started the session with awareness of industry requirements and challenges. Sir explained about the scenario of syllabus and what should be done by each and every students to meet the market requirements. Sir explained the corporate culture and importance of dedication in every aspect. Various equipment’s handled by industry has to be managed, tested and dispatched with proper protocol to be followed.

    Explanation by Expert

    Sir has explained that opportunities are more in manufacturing industries. The operating temperature will be more than 45 degrees and 24 hours production of materials is in process. Special materials are required for any kind of manufacturing industries and need equal manpower where an Engineer can easily grab the requirement. Sir also explained that Mechanical, Electrical and Civil are work of field and has to be planned accordingly. Mental stress management is key in engineering education. With positive thinking and attitude an Engineer can solve all the problems.

    This expert session has great impact on students as well as faculties as how the gap between industry and academics can be bridged and to deal with it as well as planning of future.

    Total 70 participants have attended the session and all have given positive feedback and requested to conduct such session in future also. Prof. Ronita Pawn Mam concluded the session with vote of thanks to Speaker and Heads of Institution.
