Workshop on “R Programming”

R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. It is a GNU project which is similar to the S language and environment which was developed at Bell Laboratories (formerly AT&T, now Lucent Technologies) by John Chambers and colleagues. R can be considered as a different implementation of S. There are some important differences, but much code written for S runs unaltered under R.

R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, …) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. The S language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical methodology and R provides an Open Source route to participation in that activity.

One of R’s strengths is the ease with which well-designed publication-quality plots can be produced, including mathematical symbols and formulae where needed. Great care has been taken over the defaults for the minor design choices in graphics, but the user retains full control.

R is available as Free Software under the terms of the Free Software Foundation’s GNU General Public License in source code form. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms and similar systems (including FreeBSD and Linux), Windows and MacOS.

Speaker Profile: Mr. Pratik Mhatre, Research Scholar at MPSTME, NMIMS University, Mumbai and working as an Assistant Professor in Electronics & Telecommunication department at PHCET, Rasayani. Sir has 08 years of teaching and research experience with publication in various reputed journals and at various conferences of USA and India. Sir is expert in the field of Printed Circuit Board technology. Prof. Aamir Shaikh introduced the Speaker and Session started.

Expert Talk: The guest speaker took over the session with importance of PCB in Electrical engineering and what are the requirements of making PCB. Step by step procedure was explained by Sir. Key concepts of, etching, drying, fabrication etc. was explained in brief. Sir demonstrated the live PCB making on software and interacted with students by making one circuit.

Sir explained the CNC machine interfacing with software installed in computer through video. Sir explained very nicely fabrication of IC 555 from beginning of layout making to the final fabrication.

Various applications such as antennas and radar engineering was highlighted. Students responded quickly to the speaker and one of the students Kamal Joshi was appreciated for his quick and accurate response. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the speaker.

Tree Plantation Drive 2020-21

Tree plantation is not just something that should be done; instead, it is a necessity, the urgent need of the hour. Planting of trees is especially important to protect our environment against air pollution and global warming. Therefore, NSS Unit, PHCET Rasayani organized Tree Plantation Drive in the Month of April 2021 and was a huge success, empowering students with substantial knowledge of environment and plants. The main agenda of the campaign was to enable the students to enhance their intellectual, social, personal and emotional growth. Total 70 saplings were planted by volunteers, students and faculty to accomplish this task.

Plasma Donation Drive 2020-21

Plasma therapy, broadly known as ‘convalescent plasma therapy’, is a procedure to treat coronavirus infection. The plasma contains that antibodies that can help a patient fight the pathogen and recover from the disease. In an initiative to help Covid patients get treated through plasma of a recovered patient, NSS Unit, PHCET Rasayani organized Plasma Donation Drive in the Month of April 2021.

As part of the project, we prepared list of registered plasma donors online. People keep searching for donors, which wastes their time during treatment. The list helped them find a donor easily and get the treatment on time. Once a donor who recovered from Covid infection and is willing to donate their plasma registers online, doctors contacted them, check all the criteria and ask them to donate the plasma with the respected blood banks. The donor needed to share their name, blood group and address so that they can be contacted. The entire process of donation was free of cost. The main agenda of the campaign was to help the covid patients to get plasma therapy so that they can be cured faster. In total 46 patients were cured and 26 donors donated plasma during this task

Earth Day – Restore the Earth

Earth Day celebration was organised by the PHCET Student Council on 22nd April, 2021. Ms. Athira Pillai, Student representative started the meet with the note of importance of celebrating Earth day. A very distinguished wildlife and landscape ecology expert Prof. Qamar Qureshi, Scientist SG, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun delivered a Talk on “Monitoring tigers and dolphins: small steps, big data for informed decision to protect nature for future”.

Dr. Mathew T. Joseph, Principal (PHCET) interacted with the students and faculty and gave and inspiring thought about the need for preserving various resources which out mother earth is having and also motivated the students to celebrate more such meaningful days such as Earth shoot day, Environment day etc. more seriously so as to bring in more awareness among young generations.

Shri Nilesh Desai President, ISRS & Dr. Hitendra Padalia Secretary ISRS were also present along with Mr. Karthik Nagarajan & Mr. Raju Narwade (Secretary & treasurer ISRS- Mumbai Chapter) Qamar Qureshi, said India needs to build tiger corridors that would allow the animals to move from one reserve to another without interference.

Workshop on “Interview – Preparation”

A Webinar on “Interview Preparation” was organised under IETE Student Forum by the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering for S.E., T.E. and B.E. students on 17th April, 2021. Mr. Gokul Nair, Resource Management Lead in Capgemini Apps Europe PAN India was invited as guest speaker for this session.

Dept. ISF Coordinator Mr. Pratik Mhatre organised this event. The speaker explained about Resume preparation, HR Rounds, new Online Recruitment Process & resources available for preparation and many more. Guidelines were given for Online resources for interview preparations, practice sessions and tips and tricks for Aptitude Test were also highlighted by the speaker.

The QA part of the session was really fruitful as students took part actively and cleared their queries. Session ended with vote of thanks by Head of the Department, Dr. Mansi Subhedar. Session feedback submitted by students has confirmed the effectiveness of the session.

Two Days Workshop on “Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++”

Theme

The NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) and Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani, has organized Two days Workshop on “Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++”. Workshop is organized by Department of Information Technology; this is scheduled on 16th and 17th April 2021 exclusively for verifiable academic students, staff, and researchers.

In this Workshop 51 participants registered and actively participated for the course.
14 participants successfully completed and received certificate from NVIDIA as they have cleared final test of Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++ by NVIDIA(DLI). This workshop conducted online with google meet mode.

This Workshop is practical oriented beneficial to UG and PG students. To recognize their subject matter competency and support professional career growth.

The objective of this workshop is to learn fundamental tools and techniques for accelerating C/C++ applications to run on massively parallel GPUs with CUDA®.

The workshop also looks at optimize memory migration between the CPU and GPU accelerator, and implement the workflow.

The course further examines the actions and processes that can be used to Accelerate Applications with CUDA C/C++

NVIDIA DLI offers hands-on training for developers, data scientists, and researchers looking to solve challenging problems with deep learning and accelerated computing.

About This Workshop:

This workshop teaches the fundamental tools and techniques for accelerating C/C++ applications to run on massively parallel GPUs with CUDA®. You’ll learn how to write code, configure code parallelization with CUDA, optimize memory migration between the CPU and GPU accelerator, and implement the workflow that you’ve learned on a new task – accelerating a fully functional, but CPU-only, particle simulator for observable massive performance gains. At the end of the workshop, you’ll have access to additional resources to create new GPU-accelerated applications on your own.

Competitive Programming 2021

CSI PHCET organized a two-day peer-to-peer event on Competitive Programming On the 10th and 11th of April 2021. The idea was to share knowledge and information among peers to cultivate a comfortable and interactive learning environment. The event saw a large number of attendees and a great energy throughout the two days. The speakers for the event were Het Patel and Kishan Patel from TE Computer Department. They did a great job. The two-day event of Competitive Programming came out to be a success with everyone learning new skills on new topics and a better familiarity with the speakers as part of our peer-to-peer event planning part.

Firstly, basic concepts required were explained along with question and answer sessions to form an interactive environment. Further on, more information about Competitive Programming was provided. As we followed a hands-on approach, one of the segments taught were practical problems were in real time problems were taught to the attendees and they were encouraged to solve it themselves too.

Many at-home assignment questions were provided for the attendees to practice. At the end, a query session took place and also, attendees were provided with a certificate for the respective event.

Gaming-Valorant Competition

“Some trees flourish, others die. Some cattle grow strong, others are taken by wolves. Some men are born rich enough and dumb enough to enjoy their lives. Ain’t nothing fair. You know that.”
This event was organized by the Student Council of Computer Engineering Department to provide a platform for students to showcase their gaming skills. It also helped the students to get recognition in the department and spend time with their hobbies. It was a fun event giving me a chance to engage with friends. The event even increased their inner confidence. The young juniors and seniors enrolled themselves in this event to boost their confidence in gaming.
