    National Workshop on “Recent Development in Repairs and Retrofitting of Structures”

    Department of Civil Engineering, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology organizes a National Workshop on Recent Development in Repairs and Retrofitting of Structures under Association of Structural Rehabilitation(ASTR) student Chapter on 18th April, 2022. Eminent Speakers from S. P. Concare Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Sebastian Fernandes and Mr. Shrinivas Patil delivered lecture on the topic “Nano fines concrete Technology”. The sessions were conducted offline in conclave I. The total registration for the program was 115. The session was very informative and speakers explained about their product Technology. Participants provided their feedback through the link shared with them. Certificate was awarded to all participants who attended the sessions and gave feedback.

    Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a social reformer, jurist, economist, author, polyglot (knowing or using several languages) orator, a scholar and thinker of comparative religions. He is known as the Father of the Indian Constitution and was India’s first Law Minister. He was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee for the new Constitution. He was a well-known statesman who fought for the rights of the Dalits and other socially backward classes. His birth anniversary is celebrated on 14th April every year, with great enthusiasm. The program commenced by lighting the lamp and garlanding the photo of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Total 52 students and NSS coordinators were present for this event

Ltd. had conducted Placement Drive for the department of Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering students on 12th April, 2022 for 2021 passed out and current (2022) batch students. About 20 numbers of students were selected out of 50 shortlisted students to technical and HR round on the same day after the group discussion round held at Conclave I.

    Industrial Visit to 220/100/22KV Substation, Apte

    The Electrical Engineering Department organized an Industrial Visit for the Third Year Electrical Engineering student on 11th and 12th April, 2022 to Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company 220/100/22 KV APTE Substation. Students are divided in two batches. Our main purpose for this visit is to be familiar with industrial environment and to get practical knowledge of electrical power transmission and distribution system.

    From this visit, student got the detailed information and practical knowledge about single line diagram of substation and about different component of substation like feeder, circuit breaker, transformer, isolator, bus bar, Protective relays, Lightening arresters, Wave Trap, Load break switches and their construction, working principle.

    They got the idea how to read the single line diagram of power substation using different symbols used in diagram. Student cleared out practical knowledge of transformer as how it step down voltage 220 KV to 100 KV. They also got knowledge about new SCADA based system as you can operate substation by manually or by command from computer using SCADA system and PLC programming. About 49 students were benefited from this visit as they got chance to discussion with assistant engineers working at Substation.

    Webinar on “Introduction to Reinforcement Learning Control”

    A Webinar on “Introduction to Reinforcement Learning Control” was organized through Google meet by Department of Electrical Engineering and it was held on 10th April, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Vinodh Kumar. E, Associate Professor, School of Electrical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore was invited as the resource person. He has a vast experience in the area of control system and has published many papers in International Journals. He has more than 12 years of experience in academic and research areas. Further, he is handling central government research projects in collaboration with IIT Madras. Webinar was organized by taking online registration through google forms, 87 participants had registered for the session.

    The Speaker commenced the session with an introduction to feedback control system and its limitation, and also introduced the advantages and disadvantages of feed forward control system. He mainly focused on Reinforcement Learning Control and its importance. Further, he explained the Reinforcement Learning Control with an example of water level control system. He simulated an experiment with MATLAB to explain the application of Reinforcement Learning Control. In this webinar problems arising during modelling the Reinforcement Learning Control was also discussed.

    The session concluded with a question answer session at 12:30 p.m. An online feedback form was sent to participants, positive feedback was received for the webinar and they suggested to organize more session like the same in the future. All the participate were provided with E certificate.

    Objective of this webinar was to spread awareness about Gender Equality among students and faculty members. Mr. Suresh Gudpe (Deputy General Manager – Contracts at JMC Projects (India) Limited), Keynote Speaker of this webinar has given a brief overview of Gender Equality. He has explained how gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It’s essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right. Everyone benefits from gender equality. The session concluded with an interactive session between the resource persons and the participants in which the queries of the participants were addressed satisfactorily.

    The Department of Computer Engineering has organized “TECH-EXPO, 2022” Project Competition on 8th April, 2022. The TECH-EXPO was the project competition which combines the activity of Project Exhibition for S.E. and T.E. students and Technical Poster Presentation for B.E. students to showcase their innovative ideas through poster presentation. The expert Mr. Rahul Pingle gave a glimpse of projects handled in industry.

    After inauguration of TECH-EXPO, 2022 Principal Sir addressed students and explained to them the importance of project selection and how efforts in projects are useful for their professional career.

    Panel of Judges for B.E. students include Mr. Rahul Pingle, Ms. Archana Arudkar and for S.E. and T.E. students Dr. Divya Chirayil, Ms. Rupali Sathey, Ms. Srijita Bhattachrajee and Ms. Shrutika Khobaragade. Judgement was done based on literature survey, conceptual study, practical implementation and social cause.

    Event Feedback:
    The poster presentation attended by the final year students. Received a good response from the students and also they gave very good feedback. All the concepts were explained clearly and understandably.

    A Industrial Waste Treatment Site Visit for the B.E. (Semester VIII) Civil Engineering students was organized by Department of Civil Engineering on 8th April, 2022. The location of site was PRIA CETP, Patalganga Rasayani. The agenda of the visit consist of explanation and understand of Waste Water treatment in CETP plant (i.e. handling of Plant, planning, management, safety in CETP) by their Workers.

    5. To see the different equipment’s and machineries and their usage CETP plant.
    6. Exposure to different types of PUMPS, Vaccum PUMPs and technology in CETP.
    7. Awareness of the importance of the safety in CETP.

    A Site Visit for the Third Year students to Sewage Treatment Plant, Kharghar was organized by Department of Civil Engineering on 8th April, 2022 along with faculty member Mr. Harshal Pathak and Dr. G. R. Patil. The Waste water which is produced from Kharghar region is treated in STP, Kharghar having a capacity of 100 MLD. After visiting industry students can gain a combined knowledge about both theory and practical.
