Event Information:

The Cyber Security Club of PHCET successfully organized Cyber Genesis: Orientation and Cyber Security Essentials, an engaging session that introduced students to the fast-growing world of cybersecurity. Aimed at creating awareness and building interest in digital safety, the event featured an insightful session by Mr. Roshan Thakur, Specialist Officer Cyber Security at the State Bank of India.

With years of hands-on experience in protecting digital systems in the banking sector, Mr. Thakur brought practical knowledge to the session. He began by explaining the basics of cybersecurity in a simple and clear way—what it is, why it’s important, and how it affects our daily lives. He spoke about various types of cyber threats like phishing, hacking, and data breaches, and made students aware of the risks involved in today’s digital world.

Mr. Thakur shared real-life examples of cybercrimes from the banking sector, helping students understand how hackers attack systems and what professionals do to stop them. He explained why being aware and alert online is so important and gave useful cyber safety tips that students can follow every day—like spotting fake links, using strong passwords, and avoiding online traps such as scams and social engineering.

One of the most exciting parts of the session was when Mr. Thakur showed how common cyberattacks happen and explained how ethical hackers think and operate to protect systems. His demonstrations helped students see how easy it is to fall into cyber traps—and how equally important it is to know how to prevent them.

He also spoke about the growing career opportunities in cybersecurity and how students can start their journey in this high-demand field. He highlighted the importance of learning the right skills and doing hands-on practice. The session ended with an interactive Q&A round, where students asked questions about hacking, cyber laws, career paths, and security tools. Mr. Thakur patiently cleared all their doubts, gave honest advice, and encouraged everyone to explore this exciting field further.

Cyber Genesis turned out to be an eye-opening experience for the students, offering both awareness and inspiration. It gave them a better understanding of how to stay safe online and sparked curiosity about careers in cybersecurity. The Cyber Security Club looks forward to organizing more such informative and engaging events in the future.

The orientation program for final year students was successfully held on July 14, 2025, with a total attendance of 160 students. The event commenced with an address by Dr. Jagdish W. Bakal, Principal of PHCET, who welcomed the students and highlighted the significance of the major project in their academic journey.

Following this, Dr. Rajashree Gadhave, Head of the Computer Department, provided an insightful overview of various project domains, helping students understand the diverse areas they could explore for their projects.

Ms. Nikita Saindane, Major Project Coordinator then delivered a detailed presentation outlining the entire project completion process. Her talk covered key aspects such as the project scheme, identification of the problem statement, the schedule for progress seminars, and guidelines for publication of work.

• To motivate students to engage actively with their project guides and utilize available resources efficiently.
