    On 5th April 2025, the Department of Computer Engineering at Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology organized “TECH-EXPO 2.0”, a multifaceted event aimed at showcasing the innovative skills of students in technical paper presentations, poster presentations, and project competitions. This event combined activities for students at various levels (SE, TE, and BE) to engage in constructive academic exchanges and present their research and projects.

    Event Overview:
    TECH-EXPO 2.0 included a mix of competitions that offered participants a platform to demonstrate their academic achievements. The event featured:

    • Technical Paper Presentations: BE students presented research papers on various topics, engaging in intellectual discussions with the judges and peers.
    • Poster Presentations: Students showcased their innovative ideas on large-format posters, providing an interactive experience for attendees.
    • Project Competition: SE, TE, and BE students displayed their projects, providing practical solutions to real-world problems.

    Resource Persons and Experts:

    The event was graced by industry experts, including Mr. Pranay Vartak, who shared insights from the industry regarding the types of projects commonly handled in real-world scenarios. The panel of judges for the different segments included Ms. Pooja Shukre and Ms. Ekta Ukey for the paper presentation, Mr. Pranay Vartak for the poster presentation, and Mr. Amir Shaikh, Mr. Pranay Vartak, and Ms. Pooja Shukre for the project competition.

    After the inauguration, Dr. Rajashree Gadhave, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, addressed the students. She emphasized the importance of selecting meaningful and impactful projects, stressing how such projects could significantly enhance their professional careers.

    In addition, Dr. Jagdish W. Bakal, Principal of PHCET shared his thoughts on the significance of projects in a student’s academic and professional growth. He encouraged the students to focus on innovative and real-world solutions, highlighting how hands-on project experience plays a crucial role in shaping their future careers.

    Mr. Pranay Vartak, Industry expert has emphasized the importance of projects in shaping a student’s academic and career development. He outlined several crucial points regarding how projects contribute to both personal and professional growth.

    The evaluation was based on multiple factors, including literature surveys, conceptual studies, practical implementations, and the social impact of the projects. This approach ensured that the projects were assessed not only on their technical merits but also on their real-world relevance.

    Event Feedback:

    The event received a positive response, especially from the final-year students who participated in the poster presentations and Paper presentation. Students appreciated the clarity with which concepts were explained, and the feedback was overwhelmingly favorable.     The Computer Engineering Department of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology (PHCET), Rasayani, in collaboration with the Aegis School of Data Science, successfully organized a seminar on 4th April 2025 at Conclave 1. The initiative aimed to expose students to current industry practices and emerging technologies in the field of data science and artificial intelligence (AI). The event saw the active participation of over 200 students from the Third Year (TE) and Final Year (BE) Computer Engineering programs.

    Experts from Aegis delivered an engaging and informative session covering the fundamentals of data science, machine learning, and AI, along with their real-world applications in domains such as healthcare, finance, and logistics. A key highlight was a live demonstration of a machine learning model, offering students practical insights into the end-to-end data pipeline—from data preprocessing to prediction.

    The speakers emphasized the growing role of AI in automation, smart systems, and decision-making, discussing both the advantages (efficiency, accuracy, scalability) and challenges (ethical concerns, job displacement, data privacy, and algorithmic bias) associated with its adoption. Students were introduced to essential tools and platforms like Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and TensorFlow, and received valuable guidance on career paths, certifications, and internship opportunities in the data science field.

    The seminar concluded with an enthusiastic Q&A session, where students inquired about project development, startup prospects, and AI’s future impact. A senior faculty member delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, appreciating the Aegis team for their time and insights. The session was a great success, leaving students inspired and better prepared to pursue careers in data science and AI.

    The Department of Computer Engineering at PHCET, Rasayani, organized a highly informative Study Abroad Seminar on March 28, 2025, in collaboration with IMFS Study Abroad (IMFS). Held at Conclave 1 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, the seminar aimed to guide students on opportunities for pursuing higher education abroad. Over 150 students from SE, TE, and BE participated enthusiastically in the event.

    The session was conducted by Mr. Nitin Lathe from IMFS, who offered an in-depth overview of the application process for international universities. Key topics included visa requirements, documentation, standardized tests (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS), and step-by-step admission procedures. His insights enabled students to understand the intricacies of planning their academic journey overseas.

    Additionally, a representative from HDFC Credila addressed the financial planning aspect, explaining student loan options, eligibility, documentation, interest rates, and repayment structures, thus helping students grasp how to fund their education effectively.

    The seminar emphasized crucial elements such as selecting the right country and university, understanding scholarships and budgeting, preparing for entrance exams, and handling common challenges. An interactive Q&A session allowed students to seek personalized guidance on university shortlisting, visa queries, and career prospects post-graduation.

    The seminar concluded with a free GRE test offered by IMFS, with incentives based on scores. The event received overwhelming appreciation and successfully inspired students to take structured steps toward their study abroad goals.     HackOverflow 3.0, a three-day national-level hackathon organized by the Department of Computer Engineering of Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology, Rasayani, was held from March 20th to March 22th, 2025. The event aimed to provide a platform for aspiring technologists to showcase their skills, collaborate with peers, and tackle real-world challenges in the field of technology.

    HackOverflow 3.0 saw enthusiastic participation from students representing various colleges and universities across the country from 15+ states. Over the course of three days, participants worked tirelessly in teams to ideate, innovate, and develop solutions aligned with the theme of “Dynamic World.” With access to state-of-the-art facilities and mentorship from industry experts, the event fostered an environment conducive to creativity and problem-solving.

    In the excellent success of HackOverflow 3.0, Pillai Institute’s Chairman Dr. Vasudevan Pillai, Dr. Daphne Pillai, Dr. Priyam Pillai, Prof. Munawira Pillai, Mr. Franav Pillai, Dr. Lata Menon, the proficient guidance of Principal Dr. Jagdish W. Bakal and the excellent leadership of the Computer Department’s HOD, Dr. Rajashree Gadhave, Faculty Coordinators Prof. Abhijeet More and other teachers have contributed greatly. Final year students Shreyanshi Srivastava and Yash Kumbhar, a remarkable student, lead the event HackOverflow 3.0.

    The event featured a series of evaluation rounds, networking sessions and mentorship opportunities, providing participants with valuable insights and guidance from industry experts. Participants had access to cutting-edge technologies and resources to develop their projects, enhancing their learning experience and skill development. Collaboration and teamwork were emphasized, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and fellowship among participants. The hackathon concluded with presentations and demonstrations of the projects developed by the participating teams, highlighting their innovative solutions and problem-solving abilities.

    Distinguished guests and judges from Google graced the event, providing invaluable insights and guidance to participants. Chief Guest Mr. Shridhar Mankar along with Guest of Honour Ms. Rohini Bhosale, honored the occasion with their presence. The judging panel, comprising Ms. Nikita Gandhi, Mr. Manav Gupta, Mr.Nirav Sanghavi,Mr. Shridhar Mankar brought extensive experience and expertise to evaluate the projects.

    The sponsors for HackOverflow 3.0 included Blue star, Unlox Education, Bsides, Aptech Learning Panvel, The parnika, AM study, IMFS, Quill Bot, which doubled the program’s glory.

    HackOverflow 3.0 was not just a competition but a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and ingenuity. The event provided participants with a platform to push the boundaries of technology and create solutions that have the potential to shape the future. HackOverflow 3.0 was a resounding success, bringing together young technologists and innovators to explore, ideate, and create solutions for building smarter cities.

    Department of Electronics and Computer Science organized a seminar on “Master Techniques to Enhance Concentration” on March 17, 2025 for all the students of ECS, Computer and IT department. Mr. Shekhar Muzumdar was invited as a speaker for the seminar. He is one of the trustees at Manashakti Research Center Lonavla and now serves as lifetime devotee. He is associated with Manashakti for 42 years. Mr. Muzumdar delved into the science behind concentration, explaining how the human brain operates when it is focused. He pointed out that modern distractions—such as constant digital notifications, multitasking, and stress—can impair concentration. He explained that with regular practice, individuals can train their minds to improve focus and gain better control over their thoughts and actions. He also invited students to visit the Manashakti Research Center to explore the various programs offered for improving mental clarity and focus. Overall, it was a highly informative and enriching experience for all attendees.

Around 100 students from ECS, Computer and IT department attended the seminar. It was an informative and engaging experience for all attendees and provided a clear roadmap for those looking to enter or advance in the cybersecurity field.     Site Selection
    The site for surveying project was selected considering the following criteria:

    • The land should be undulated.
    • There should be significant difference in gradient.
    • Vast area should be available for surveying without obstructions

    Objectives
    The survey camp was conducted with the following objectives:

    • To familiarise the students with the some of the surveying works conducted on site like contouring, profiling, cross-sectioning etc.
    • To instil the knowledge of taking observations with various surveying instruments like dumpy level, digital theodolite etc.
    • To train the student to process the field observations and obtain useful data.

    Observations

    The students obtained necessary data pertaining to required survey works. In the field, staff readings were entered in the standard level book format. Later, calculations were made to find out the following

    • Reduced levels pertaining to radial contouring project. The staff intercept is used to calculate the horizontal and vertical distances along the radial lines.
    • Reduced levels pertaining to block contouring project which is used to prepare the topographic map of the area.
    • Reduced levels pertaining to road project which is used to plot the longitudinal profile and cross section of road.

    Outcomes
    On successful completion of the survey camp, the students were able to:

    • Gain knowledge regarding projects like contouring, profiling, cross-sectioning etc.
    • Use various surveying instruments as per the requirement of the project
    • Practice calculation of reduced levels from field readings
    • Prepare the necessary drawings like Longitudinal sections and Cross section (highway project), topographic maps using block contour and radial contouring.

    Detailed Report

    As per the syllabus of Mumbai University for Second year Civil Engineering Degree Course, a Surveying Project work is to be carried out. The students are required to conduct the following projects and prepare detailed drawing sheets.

    1. Radial contouring
    2. Block contouring
    3. Longitudinal profiling and cross-sectioning of Roadwork

    For the academic year 2024-25, the survey project for students of Semester IV was conducted on 15st March and 16th March 2025 at Monteria Resort, Khalapur. Initiation and discussions on preparing the four required drawing sheets was carried out on and 9th April 2025 at the classroom, PHCET.

    1. RADIAL CONTOURING

    The radial contouring is a contouring method by which intermediate points are taken on the radial lines whose reduced levels are used to draw the contour maps. Tacheometric method of contouring is adopted here, which is suitable where linear measurements are difficult. The radial lines are those lines which radiate from a fixed point with some uniform angle. The contour lines are imaginary lines on the ground joining the points of equal elevation. For the given site, radial lines were connected with an angular spacing of 45°, starting from 0º to 360°.The levelling staff is held at various points on the radial lines and the staff readings are noted. The horizontal distance, vertical distance and reduced levels of these points can be determined with the help of staff intercepts using formula for tacheometric survey. After determining a suitable contour interval, points having same RL are located on the radial lines. Smooth curves of various contour lines were drawn connecting points of equal elevation and the contour map was prepared.

    2. BLOCK CONTOURING

    In block contour the given area is divided into a number of blocks of equal dimensions and the grid intersection points are marked on the ground. For the given site, the area was divided into blocks of size 5m x 5m by using cross staff, chain and ranging rods. A dumpy level and a level staff are used to note down the staff readings of these points on a level book page. The reduced level of the various intermediate points was deduced from the staff readings taken at the site. For an appropriate contour interval, points of required reduced level are identified by method of interpolation and a contour map is drawn joining the points of same RL in the given area. The contour map helps to identify the nature of topography of the land area surveyed.

    3. LONGITUDINAL PROFILING AND CROSS-SECTIONING OF ROAD

    The objective of this project is to fix the alignment of a road and to obtain the reduced level of existing ground. The center-line of the proposed road is marked on the ground and levelling is done at intervals of 10m each, longitudinally and for 2m on either side of the center-line. Bearings are noted whenever there is a change in direction. The cross-section of the highway at these regular intervals was found by cross sectioning. The drawings of the longitudinal section and cross-section are prepared with formation width and side slopes. This cross-sectioning is useful for calculating the earthwork involved in cutting and filling at different sections of the highway at various intervals.
