Hands-on Workshop on FLUTTER

ACE Club successfully organized a Hands-on Workshop on Flutter on 13th February 2025 (Thursday). The objective of this workshop was to Introduce Second-year & Third-year Students to Flutter, its importance, and its benefits for application development across all Engineering branches. The event witnessed Enthusiastic participation, with around 70 students attending the session.

The workshop was conducted by Prof. Prachi Sorte, who provided valuable insights into Flutter, its framework, and real-world applications. She explained the fundamentals of Flutter, including its architecture, Dart programming language, widgets, and state management. The session highlighted the advantages of using Flutter for cross-platform app development and its growing demand in the industry.

During the session, students were given hands-on experience in creating a simple mobile application using Flutter. Prof. Prachi Sorte demonstrated the process of setting up a Flutter environment, designing UI components, and integrating basic functionalities. The students were encouraged to experiment with different widgets and layouts to enhance their understanding of the framework. She also addressed common challenges faced during Flutter development and provided solutions to overcome them.

The workshop proved to be a great success, leaving students with a strong foundation in Flutter development and inspiring them to delve deeper into mobile app development. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the organizing team and the expertise shared by Prof. Prachi Sorte.

Sansmruti Alumni Meet 2025-26

Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology organized “SANSMRUTI ALUMNI MEET”, a program designed to facilitate, consolidate, and coordinate alumni activities, on 8th February 2025. An Alumni Meet is a gathering of former students, providing an opportunity for the institution to take pride in the achievements of its alumni.

During such meets, the alumni community shares their experiences from the outside world—challenges, accomplishments, and growth encountered after stepping out of the institution. Alumni Meets help foster reconnection with the alma mater and celebrate the success and milestones of its graduates.

During the Alumni Meet event, the IT Department successfully organized a series of engaging activities. The program began with a warm welcome speech delivered by the Head of the Department, Ms. Srijita Bhattacharjee. Following the speech, snacks were distributed to the alumni, offering a moment for informal interaction and conversation.

Next, the students presented a vibrant cultural program to entertain and honor the alumni. After the performances, the Graphic Design Team from the IT Department showcased a heartfelt video capturing cherished memory from college life.

Following the video, several alumni took the stage to share their personal journeys and reflections, adding an emotional and nostalgic touch to the occasion. To commemorate the event, group photographs were taken with the alumni.

The evening concluded with a gracious vote of thanks, delivered by Ms. Prachi Sorte expressing heartfelt gratitude to all attendees and contributors who made the event a memorable success.

The occasion was graced by around 21 alumni ranging across various batches from various parts of the country. They were all working in different fields and had a good interaction among their peers and also with their juniors. They gave suggestions on how to look for jobs after graduation and also told about the importance of courses which would help them while searching for jobs. All were happy to meet their teachers and had a wonderful time cherishing their college days.

Feedback was also collected from alumni regarding the organizational aspects of the Meet and their suggestions for improvement in professional training at PHCET. The Alumni Meet closed at a very emotional note. However, everyone appreciated the efforts by the student council in organizing the Meet. Everyone departed with the resolve to meet again and spread the message amongst all who could not visit this time.

A Hands-On Session On Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Event Objective	The objective of this to introduce students to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and provide them with hands-on experience in using key AWS services such as EC2 and S3 for building scalable and efficient cloud-based applications.
Event Outcome	Students should understand the practical knowledge of AWS, including how to set up and manage EC2 instances, use S3 for storage, and deploy a basic web application. They also developed an understanding of the real-world applications of AWS through live demonstrations and interactive Q&A sessions.

Event Overview:

The CSI club organized an informative and engaging hands-on session on Amazon Web Services. The session aimed at providing students with an introduction to cloud computing and the various services offered by AWS.

CSI PHCET successfully organized a hands-on session on AWS to encourage all the students and deepen their understanding about Amazon Web Services and cloud computing. The event, aimed primarily at second-year and third-year students and technology enthusiasts, through a combination of theoretical insights and practical experience. It helped the participants to gain a deeper understanding of cloud technologies, and many expressed interests in exploring AWS further. The program commenced with a warm welcome address, followed by an in-depth introduction to CSI PHCET. The highlight of the event was the Core Team Introduction for 2024-2025, where the new leadership team was officially announced, fostering a sense of collaboration and enthusiasm among the participants.

The attendees were first addressed by the Lead of CSI PHCET, Ms. Tanisha Paras, who motivated the students to actively engage in learning and exploring. She highlighted the core mission and vision of the club, emphasizing its role in fostering a community of tech enthusiasts and providing students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge of cutting-edge technologies. The session proceeded with the introduction of the esteemed speaker, Mr. Chaitya Shah and Ms. Supriya Tiwari who were warmly welcomed by Dr. J. W. Bakal Sir, Principal, PHCET. Mr. Shah, an industry expert and SDE-2 at IFANOW with extensive experience in AWS technologies, took the stage with great enthusiasm, guiding the students through the various aspects of AWS.

Following this the hands-on session began where Mr. Shah explained key AWS services, including EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) and S3 (Simple Storage Service), and how these tools are used to build scalable and efficient applications. The participants were guided through a practical demonstration of using AWS services. Students got hands-on experience on setting up an EC2 instance, managing storage through S3, and deploying a simple web application.The session also included a live Q&A, where the speaker addressed the queries of students, helping them understand the practical applications of AWS in real-world scenarios.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Mr. Chaitya Shah and Ms. Supriya Tiwari for their valuable insights and for taking the time to guide the students through AWS. With a solid foundation laid, CSI PHCET looks forward to an eventful year filled with learning opportunities, innovative projects, and collaborative growth.

Industrial Expert Lecture: Advanced in Thermal Power Plant & Its Needs 2025

Event Objective	To reduce gap between curriculum and industry for the subject Turbo Machinery and to know the market strategy of sale of electricity.
Event Outcome	Students got knowledge of the actual installation and working of thermal power plant as well as knowledge about sales, maintenance and marketing. Also got familiar with other sectors and requirements in the plant apart from the working they learnt in the theory classes.

Thermal Power Plants runs on Rankine cycle. But to run the plant mare the knowledge of power cycle is not sufficient. There is need of control system, fuel and charge handling system, safety, sales etc which is not covered under the single subject.

Since the speaker is very knowledgeable and experienced in the field of power generation, he cleared all doubts asked by students very nicely. He explained about the existing cycles in power generation, its installation and other requirements, sales strategies according to demand and maintenance and care of the unit.

The overall session was very informative which satisfied students need in the field.

The Trombay Thermal Power Station, located in Mumbai, has an installed generation capacity of 1430MW which is now reduced to 930 MW. Providing power to majority consumers (bulk & retail) in Mumbai, the plant has a list of firsts to its credit. From the first 150 MW and 500 MW plant in India to setting up the unique islanding system which ensures uninterrupted power supply to Mumbai.

Tata Power generates about 9032.5 MW from thermal power plant. Trombay power station was established in 1956 to provide power to the city of Mumbai. The coal-fired unit 3 (60 MW) and unit 4 (150 MW) were commissioned in the 1960s and have been retired. The first three units of the power station were initially intended to retire as soon as Unit 6 was commissioned, but power shortages in Greater Bombay prompted the government of India to extend the units’ lifetimes until the commissioning of Unit 7 in 1994. After Unit 3 was retired in 1994, its generator was converted to “run as a synchronous condenser to meet the shortage of reactive power in the grid.” Unit 5 (500+ MW) and Unit 8 (250 MW) are run on coal, Unit 6 on oil, and Unit 7 on gas. Tata Power has said the rising cost of fuel oil has led the company to consider conversion to imported coal.

Approximately 2.4 million tonnes of coal bituminous (low sulphur, low ash) coal for the existing coal-fired units is imported by a project specific coal berth mainly from Indonesia.

Mr. B K Bhat and Mr. U N Pawar introduced the students about the history and present position of the industry. Also, he conducted a nice session explained various cycles in power plant with automated models.

Throughout the visit Mr. B K Bhat and Mr. U N Pawar and their team interacted with students and helped them to enhance their knowledge. Students were very enthusiastic while watching & studying the unit 3 of the plant and became happy especially when they saw actual coal burning in the furnace, its live image in control room and the three fuel (Coal, Oil, and gas) firing system of the single unit as well the actual visualization of all four systems of thermal power plant.

7 Days NSS Residential Camp

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Residential Camp at Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology took place from 24th to 30th January, 2025 in Posari Thakurwadi, Panvel, and involved 34 volunteers. The camp aimed at enhancing students’ personalities through community service and instilling social responsibility. Activities revolved around cleaning, environmental protection, health services, awareness campaigns, and educational sessions, following the NSS principle of “Not Me But You.”

Day 1 (24th January): The camp began with an introduction by the NSS coordinators and a formal gathering. Volunteers were divided into committees for tasks like event management and cleaning. A session on Maharashtra politics and youth issues was held, followed by a debate competition with villagers.

Day 2 (25th January): The day began with yoga and continued with cleaning activities. Volunteers participated in a session on Financial Literacy and Time Management by Prof. Priya Tambe, followed by a Personality Development session and a talk on the Importance of Savings.

Day 3 (26th January): The camp celebrated Republic Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony and a rally. Later, volunteers attended a session on Snakes and Nature, focusing on ecological balance, followed by games for children.

Day 4 (27th January): Volunteers performed a street play on social issues, and later, an educational session on Report Writing was conducted for village children. A debate and speech competition took place in the evening.

Day 5 (28th January): The day featured a Health Checkup Camp for villagers, offering free consultations and medicine distribution. In the evening, there was a session on Digital Learning and Journalism.

Day 6 (29th January): Sports competitions like potato race and running races were organized for school students. The day ended with a Bhajan Sandhya spiritual event.

Day 7 (30th January): The camp concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for winners of the games. Volunteers shared their experiences, and the camp concluded with a feedback session. The entire camp contributed significantly to personal growth, community service, and building stronger societal connections.

Overall, the NSS camp was a success, fostering teamwork, leadership, and social responsibility among the volunteers.

Event Outcome :

Students gained awareness of sustainable practices and developed the ability to communicate environmental messages effectively through digital content creation.

Description of Event:

The IGBC Student Chapter at Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology (PHCET), Rasayani, successfully organized a Reel Making Competition on 29 January 2025 (Wednesday) as part of the Harit Prem Bharat Mahotsav celebrations held from 27th January to 31st January 2025.

A total of 7 enthusiastic participants from the Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Engineering departments showcased their creativity through engaging and informative reels centered on themes of sustainability and environmental consciousness.

Health Check Up 2025

All the NSS volunteers gathered at 8 a.m. for ‘Swasthya sanjivani’ : Health checkup camp.The camp was organized for the villagers, which provided essential medical services to the community. The camp offered free consultations, health screenings, and general health advice to ensure the well-being of all participants. Local healthcare professionals, along with volunteers, worked tirelessly to check for common ailments and offer preventive care. The initiative was highly appreciated, as it raised awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups and a healthy lifestyle. Many villagers took advantage of the camp, receiving valuable health tips and resources. The camp was a significant step toward improving healthcare access in the village.

It that Health checkup camp, The camp featured a variety of specialists, including eye care doctors, full body check-ups, gynaecologists, and orthopaedic professionals. These specialists provided personalized consultations, addressing specific health concerns and ensuring comprehensive care for the villagers. Their presence was vital in offering targeted medical support to those in need.

After the check-ups, free medicines were distributed to the villagers based on their specific health conditions. The medicines were provided according to the diagnosis, ensuring that each individual received the necessary treatment for their ailment. This initiative greatly supported the villagers’ health needs, making medical care more accessible to everyone.
