Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani, Raigad organized 3 days induction program for first year engineering students, as per AICTE requirements. The objective of this program was to welcome the students to Institution and introduce them to the new college environment. This induction program involved various activities designed for students to make them familiar with their new role. The activities such as Motivation lectures, yoga and meditation, talent hunt, mentoring session, personality development games, Movie screening session for English language improvement helped to involves students in fulfilled teaching – learning culture of the institution. A total number of 380 students participated in the program. Faculty, staff and student volunteers from across departments worked rigorously to ensure smooth conduction of the orientation program.

Day 1
Inauguration

Applied Sciences and Humanities Department organized Three days Induction programme for the first year engineering students. Dr. Lata Menon, Deputy, CEO, Pillai HOCL Campus, and Rasayani briefed the gathering on overall Institute’s performance, ranking, achievements, facilities, various activities, and Institute’s culture.

Dr. Jagdish Bakal, Principal, Pillai HOC College of Engineering Technology (PHCET) navigated students on their academic placement and career in general. Dr. Bakal abreast students on facilities, Sports & Cultural activities, NSS, Scholarship grants and various extra-curricular activities that facilitates students overall performance beyond classroom.

Dr. Manvendra Vashistha, Head of Applied Science and Humanities Department, PHCET welcomed students with top-notch motivational speech further explaining them about the academics, mentoring, evaluation pattern, placements, examination pattern, decorum various facilities like labs, smart classrooms, library, virtual labs, Industrial visits, Expert lecturers, language lab and various study resources available for the students.

Prof. Suma Lalit and Ms. Poonam Patil encouraged students to participate in fun filled vocabulary building activity. There were many tongue twisters, short stories, JAM session activities involved to help students develop their language accuracy and fluency in English language.

Diagnostic test was conducted to evaluate the skills and knowledge of the students. Students answered few objective questions on the subjects basic subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. The responses were accessed to prepare study resources as per the student’s requirement.

Day 2
Meditation Session

Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. G.V. Patil guided students on meditation and yogic techniques, simple rejuvenating method to detox mind and heart. Students learned the role of various techniques and asana that predominately help our mind to be control of all the emotions. He further ask student to sit in meditative position with closed eyes and let go of stress and complex emotions, and feeling light and refreshed.



All the experience faculty and mentors introduced mentoring scheme to the new entrants. Students were in-depth explained the role of a mentor and its significance. Each Mentor were holding 20 mentees and were also informed about the weekly meetings to discuss various issues, opinion, academic and non –academic matters related to the students. The details of each student including their academic and extra-curricular activity records were confidentially maintained by the mentor

Lab Safety
Mr. Nilesh Raut explained the safety measures that a students need to be care of during the practical hours. Subjects like Chemistry and Physics conducts practical in laboratories He alert students and guided them on various actions like Wear clothing and shoes that cover exposed skin and protection from potential splashes. He listed Dos and Don’ts such as tying hairs, avoiding jewellery that can be dangerous in labs. In addition, he informed students never to eat food, drink beverages, chew gum, apply cosmetics or handle contact lenses in the laboratory.

Library Orientation
Mr. Amar Mane presented students to the library of PHCET. He further instigated students to the resources, facilities and learning environment of the library. He explained that the facilities such as Online Public Access Catalogue Searching Area, Digital Library, and Laptop Zone with Wi-Fi facility, Discussion room, Reference section will add up to the students aid.

Screening Session
Prof. Poonam Patil organized Movie screening session that had six short episodes from British sitcom that featured multicultural group of immigrant trying to learn t English at an education school in London. The series were extremely hilarious and educated students about language barrier in communication, cultural differences, common error, jargons, regional connotations, mispronunciation, and new vocabulary in English.

Day 3
Training and Development

Ms. Divya Nair, training and placement officer highlighted key role of Training and Development cell. She provided information on various opportunities for placement and recruitment for the students with industries of repute from all over India. She put light on preparing students for the interviews activities such Aptitude tests, Group Discussions, preparing for Technical and HR interviews. The cell also helps in career counselling by organizing guest speakers’ viz. senior corporate personnel alumni meet to create industry culture awareness among the students.

Motivational Lecture
Motivational are incredibly powerful and resonate extremely well with individuals. Motivation speeches are often untapped but extremely valuable this is a reason; Dr. Manvendra Vashistha delivered a thought provoking motivation speech to the students. The lecture was power packed with real life examples of failure and success and how early preparation would lead to a balance and successful life. The session was truly engaging knowledgeable and motivating for the students.

Feedback Session
A total number of 380 responses were collected. The feedback questionnaire included questions based on use of technology, resources, quality, clarity, organization, experience, advice and suggestions for the institute.
