Hands-on Workshop on “Design and Make your own PCB”

PHCET > ECS Seminars & Workshops > Hands-on Workshop on “Design and Make your own PCB”

Printed Circuit Boards are an essential part of electronic connections to generate mechanical support. Conductive tracks, pads, and other features are etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate to connect capacitors, resistors, or active devices which are generally soldered on the Printed Circuit Board.

Department of Electronics & Computer, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology (PHCET), Rasayani in association with IETE Students Forum (ISF) organized a Two Days Hands-on Workshop on “Design and Make your own PCB” on 22nd and 23rd September, 2022.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. J.W. Bakal, Principal with his motivational speech. Later ISF Faculty coordinator Mr. Jayesh Rane briefed about the ISF students Chapter and events conducted under the IETE Students forum. Dr. Mansi Subhedar, Head, Department of ECS guided students on the importance of PCB design in an engineer’s life and its benefits in Mini and Major Project Designs. She also discussed the significance of participating in extracurricular activities and future plans of the department regarding student development programs.

The resource person for this workshop is Mr. Shubham Thakur, Research Associate, PCB Labs, Certified PCB Analyst & Design Engineer, ESSCI. Mr. Shubham Thakur conducted a theory session that includes the basics of PCBs, manufacturing, and various aspects of designing PCBs. Complete workshop expenses were funded from the ISF fund received from IETE, New Delhi.

The main objective behind this hands-on workshop is to get the participants to learn:

  • To design PCB layout in the software
  • To gain practical knowledge of the PCB fabrication steps
  • To implement project ideas using hardware

The following projects are developed by students in the Workshop:

  1. Rain Alarm Circuit
  2. Battery Level Indicator
  3. Doorbell Circuit
  4. 555 Timer IC Tester
  5. Christmas LED Light

Around 67 students benefited from two days workshop. Participants have given very positive video feedback and good comments relevant to the projects. Such workshops help in value and skill addition also students can increase their scope of the job opportunity. Participation certificates are awarded to every participant of the workshop.

A concluding speech to motivate the students to participate in such a workshop was given by the head of the department Dr. Mansi Subhedar. Madam appreciated the efforts of all students for their active participation and interest in participating in the workshop and also mentioned the activities conducted in the college by the department. Madam promised that the department will continue its assistance in conducting these types of workshops and seminars in the future too.
