Pillai HOC College of Engineering & Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering had successfully hosted an Online Webinar on “Diverse Applications of AI in Core Engineering” for students and faculty of PHCET which was a part of Popular Science Lecture Series. It was organised by Indian Women Scientists’ Association, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, supported by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences-DAE.

Mr. Makarand Apte, Solidworks AI Development DIrector was invited as a resource person for the webinar. He is currently working in Dassault Systemes- la fondation. Mr. Makarand is has done B.Tech from IIT Bombay in Metallurigical Engineering & Material Science. He worked on various areas on Computational Geometry, Geometric Modelling, Advanced Surfacing, CAD data inter-operability, Mesh Compression-Decompression, Wall Thickness Analysis, Swept Volume Generation and Shrink Wrapping, AI based 3D design assistant tool for productivity boosting. He has also filed 3 patents in area of Artificial Intelligence(AI). He has also organised events like idea Crowdsourcing, Hackathons, Tech Talks.

Total 70 students and faculty have participated the session. The expert commenced the session with an introduction to Artificial Intelligence. The expert showed real life examples of generative design generated by using artificial intelligence. Then he showed prominent areas in Machine Learning. He showed then how AI can be used for predictive maintenance and industrial quality inspection. Then he showed Ai powered robots working in various fields like walking robots, manhole cleaning robot and AI with prosthetics. Then at the end he gave tips for students to help with AI projects.

The session ended with Question Answer session and vote of thanks. Feedback link was sent to the participants and E-Certificate was mailed to their mail ids. Positive feedback was received from participants and students suggested to organise more sessions like the same in the future.
