W Bakal and Dr. Vashistha, Professor and Head, ASH department conducted a Seminar on “Science of happiness and wellbeing” for all FE students on 8th March, 2023. The science of happiness and well-being is a multidisciplinary field that aims to understand the factors that contribute to human happiness and well-being, and to develop interventions that can promote them. There is growing interest in this field, as increasing evidence suggests that happiness and well-being are not only important for individual health and happiness, but also for social and economic well-being.

Research in this field draws on a range of disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, sociology, and economics. Some of the key findings from this research include:

  1. Happiness is not just about material wealth or success. Research suggests that factors such as social relationships, purpose and meaning, and positive emotions are important predictors of happiness.
  2. Happiness is not a fixed trait. While genetics and life circumstances can influence happiness levels, research suggests that happiness can be cultivated through intentional practices such as gratitude, kindness, and mindfulness.
  3. Well-being is a multidimensional construct. While happiness is an important component of well-being, it is not the only one. Other components of well-being include physical health, social connectedness, and a sense of purpose and meaning.
  4. Interventions can promote happiness and well-being. There are a range of interventions that have been shown to promote happiness and well-being, including mindfulness meditation, positive psychology interventions, and social support programs.

Overall, the science of happiness and well-being is an exciting and rapidly evolving field, with important implications for individuals, communities, and society as a whole
