Project Name:
Missing Link of Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai Pune Expressway Package-I 8 lane two tunnels of length 1.75 km and 8.92 km Package-II 8 lane two viaducts of length 790 m and 650 m

Location:

Project Overview:

  • Start Date: 30th August 2018
  • Project Type: EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) Mode
  • Need for the Project: The existing 94 km Mumbai-Pune expressway faces heavy traffic, congestion, and landslide issues, especially between Adoshi Tunnel and Khalapur exit. This affects speed, travel time, and safety, resulting in frequent accidents. To address these issues, MSRDC planned a “Missing Link” project to expand the expressway from 6 lanes to 10 lanes and integrate traffic from NH4 at Khalapur.
  • Project Cost: ∙ Phase 1: ₹3,200 Cr
  • Phase 2: ₹1,600 Cr (including cost of structures)

Structural Features :

  1. Cable-Stayed Bridge:
    • Simplified design with accessible deck and stays for inspection.
    • Cost-effective as it uses fewer cables compared to suspension bridges.
    • Superior aerodynamics and efficient load transfer to pylons.
  2. Continuous Superstructure in Viaduct:
    • Reduces material use due to evenly distributed bending moments.
    • Enhances stability, minimizes deflection, and increases load-carrying capacity.
    • Requires fewer bearings and anchorages, lowering costs.
  3. Tunnels:
    • Structurally stable under lateral forces with confined end sections.
    • Designed to ensure minimal deformation and zero axial strain.
