The following concepts have been discussed the workshop:
- Solar Radiation: The electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun, also known as sunlight or the solar resource.
- Solar Cells: Also known as photovoltaic (PV) cells, these non mechanical devices convert sunlight into electricity.
- Renewable Energy: Energy that comes from naturally replenished resources, like the sun, wind, and tides. Solar energy is a major renewable energy source.
- How Solar Cells Work: When sunlight hits a solar panel, the PV cells in the panel absorb the energy and create electrical charges. These charges move in response to the cell’s internal electrical field, causing electricity to flow.
- Efficiency The efficiency of a solar cell is the amount of electrical power it produces compared to the amount of light shining on it. The efficiency depends on the type of semiconductor material and the PV cell technology.
- Applications Solar energy can be used to power devices like water pumps, supply electricity to power grids, and more.
