The NSS Unit of PHCET organized a 7-Day Camp from 24th to 30th January, 2020 at Gulsunde Village in Raigad District.

Day 1, 24th January 2020 – Inauguration, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
An entire team of 25 volunteers reached the camp site in the afternoon. After settling down, the NSS Volunteers held a small inauguration ceremony in the Gulsunde Shiv Temple with the essential members of Gram Panchayat of Gulsunde, NSS co-ordinators and volunteers. Along with the Inauguration, the first event of the camp took place which was Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. All the volunteers cleaned the SHIV TEMPLE and its surrounding areas. This temple is a major attraction here, and a lot of people visit it daily. Volunteers also cleaned the Crematorium and showed their best teamwork with all the safety measures.

Day 2, 25th January 2020 – Medical Camp
With the refreshing day, NSS unit of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology in association with Dr. G.D. POL foundation of Yerla Medical trust, Kharghar organized a Medical Camp on 25th January in the Grampanchayat office of Gulsunde village. The Inauguration was held by the senior doctors and NSS co-ordinators in the presence of villagers. The medical team had experienced doctors. It had Gynacologist, General Physician. Eye Check up team, etc. The event went on for four hours in which around 100 villagers consulted and treated for free of cost.

Day 3, 26th January 2020 – Republic Day
The NSS Unit of the Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology celebrated the 71st Republic Day of India on 26th January, 2020 with great enthusiasm. The celebrations began with flag hoisting by Principal, Program Co-ordinators of NSS Unit, PHCET, and faculty and staff members of the school attended the programme. NSS volunteers distributed sweets to all participants. As part of the celebrations, the volunteers performed a play regarding Human Rights (right to education, rights against child labour, rights for handicaps) by honouring the freedom of the country. NSS Volunteers introduced the day by sharing on the importance of the day for the nation. With a vote of thanks and sweet distribution, the program came to an end at 8.00 a.m.

Day 3, 26th January 2020 – Blood Donation
A great initiative of organizing a Blood Donation Camp at Gram Panchayat, Gulsunde by Shree Sai Blood Bank was taken by NSS Unit of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology on 26th January, 2020. The NSS volunteers held the blood donation program from 10:30 a.m. morning. All the students, along with the professors, were seen to take more excellent initiatives.

The camp started from exactly 10:30 morning with an introduction to the Importance of Blood Donation, followed by a short speech of the Project Coordinators. The donors were asked to fill a medical form to give details about their health-related information. Before the donation, checking weight, pressure, and body temperature were measured so that the one donating blood does have to face further. The one donating blood was taken to the relaxation room for the rest of a few minutes and given certificates and refreshments. The NSS Volunteers assured that the donor card would reach the respective ones. The villagers took part in this great program organized by the NSS Unit. The Head Authorities of the village acknowledged the college authority and the college NSS Unit for such great initiative and said to have more such programs.

Day 4, 29th January 2020 – Self-defence, Games & Entertainment
Volunteers had made rounds throughout the Gulsunde village, visiting each house interacting with the women of the family. A few volunteers visited the nearby school to pass out invitations for the evening activities. A Self-defence instructor Swapnil Warange from Kings Martial Arts Academy, Panvel was invited at Shiv Mandir, Gulsunde to guide Self-defence Techniques to the children and the villagers as well as volunteers. It was an enjoyable and educational environment where everyone enjoyed a lot. Later, Haldi kumkum event was held where the women took part. The volunteers conducted Games for Entertainment for the children and gave away gifts. The day finally concluded with a whole of fun and entertainment.

Day 5, 28th January 2020 – Unfolding Superstitions- Sarpamitra
The NSS Unit of PHCET organized an informative event at the Shiv Mandir, Gulsunde camp regarding snakes by a “Sarpamitra” by NSS Unit of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology on 28th January 2020, in Gulsunde, Rasayani by the NSS Unit of the PHCET.

The local Sarpamitra gave a presentation regarding the classification, facts and types of the snakes. The session was very interactive and informative as many children witnessed and asked queries. It was useful and eye-opening to everyone as there were superstitious beliefs amongst every one of us. The children took part in this great program organized by the NSS Unit. The Head Authorities of the village encouraged the college authorities.

Day 6, 29th January 2020 – Swach Bharat Abhiyaan
Along with cleaning SHIV TEMPLE and its surrounding areas Volunteers also cleaned the village roads as per the guidance of Gramsevak. Cleaning the village was done everyday as a SHRAMDAN activity.

Day 7, 30th January 2020 – Departure from the Camp Site
It was the last day and everyone in the camp was so attached to the village and the people. Volunteers on this day returned all the equipments taken from the near by people, cleaned the camp site and handed over the keys to the authorities.
