Standards Club of Mechanical Engineering Department, PHCET in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards, Mumbai Branch Office-II successfully celebrated World Consumers Rights Day with students and faculty of PHCET.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards body of India, Working under the ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. It works for harmonious development of Standards, Certification; Testing & Consumer Awareness.
BIS has taken the initiative of creating Standards Clubs in educational institutions comprising teachers and students as members. Through a variety of activities under these Clubs, young talents get learning opportunities in the field of quality and standardization.
Every year 15th March is celebrated as the World Consumer Rights Day. World Consumer Rights Day is an annual international event that signifies celebration and solidarity in the international consumer movement, demanding that, consumer rights are to be respected and protected. The event also gives a chance to protest against the market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights. This year the theme promoted is “Empowering consumers through clean energy transitions.”
As a part of the BIS World Consumer Rights Day Celebrations, Standard Club, PHCET in collaboration with the Mumbai Office-II of BIS, has carried out Awareness programme and door to door activity on 17th March, 2023 at 10.30 a.m., In which Mr. Vivek Reddy – Scientist B, BIS and Mr. Pushpendra Mishra – Standard Promotion officer, BIS explained The Importance of standards, Consumer rights, Need of Clean Energy Transition and the Newly developed app by BIS i.e. BIS Care.
The information also given regarding with a Quality connects campaign 3.0 to youth volunteers. After this event new students registered & participated to spread awareness through BIS Quality Connect App. They were imparted training through physical mode regarding contents, presentation and use of BIS app, for 3 hours. The volunteers connected with households during the campaign and created awareness about BIS, its activities, Hallmarking HUID, BIS care app and its contents. A video with message from DG, BIS and activities of BIS was shown to all households in Hindi and Marathi language. The volunteers were guided and provided with the required support to complete their assignment, from time to time as and when required.
In view of the World Consumer Rights Day 2023, the flag of ceremony regarding Door-to-Door campaign is also done after the training, all the Youth Volunteers were flagged off for Door-to-Door Campaigning by Dr. J W. Bakal, (Principal). On this occasion Mr. Vivek Reddy (Scientist B), Mr. Pushpendra Mishra – Standard Promotion officer-BIS, Dr. G. V. Patil, ( HOD-Mech), Dr. R. C. Prasad, Mr . Vaibhav Bhagat (faculty Coordinator), other faculty of the college and student volunteer were present.
