The main objective was to provide useful insight and hands-on-training on the application of Power Electronics to Microgrid, Distributor Generator and smartgrid.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sushil Thale (Dean {R&D} Professor, Electrical Department Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Vashi), Dr. Chelpa Lingam (Principal, PHCET), Dr. Shrikant Charhate (Dean, PHCET) and Prof. Pranita Chavan, (HOD, Electrical Department, PHCET). The chief guest was felicitated with the memento and a bouquet

Head of Department and convenor, Prof. Pranita Chavan gave a brief introduction about the Session to be conducted. Assistant Professor and Co-ordinator Prof. Aamir Shaikh introduced the resource person Dr. Sushil Thale, Dean (R&D) and Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

36 faculties participated in the workshop. Four sessions were conducted in two days. The sessions were:

Session 1:

  • Power Electronics Applications in Renewable Energy
  • Power Electronics in Solar PV systems and MPPT
  • Integration of RES to grid
  • Problem involved in integration of RES to grid

Session 2:

  • Design of Power Electronics converters and control aspects
  • Solar PV grid connected system
  • Overview of Solar Plant design

Session 3:

  • Introduction to Microgrid
  • Finding Research problem in Microgrid
  • DC-DC Converter design & modeling
  • Introduction to different techniques mainly fractional order controller
  • Smart grid technology
  • PV Converters & Integration techniques

Session 4:

  • Learning Power Electronics with simulink
  • DSP based DC-DC Controller
  • Hardware description
  • Velidatory Function

Two sessions were conducted in each day. The first day started with the basic introduction to Power grid. Each day had a practical session to have a right insight.

Second day session was taken by Dr. Vishwesh Vyawahare (Professor and HOD, Electronics Department, D. Y. Patil R.A.I.T.) and Prof. Pratik Kadam (Assistant Professor, Electronics Department, D. Y. Patil R.A.I.T). Morning session included Smart grid technology, DC-DC Converter design & modelling and the afternoon session included handson session.

The last day included the topics research area in mocrogrid, power electronics and employment in Smartgrid Technology. The session ended with a thanks giving by co-ordinator and H.O.D. along with certificate distribution. A feedback session was also done from which it was known that participants understood the topics very well and were happy to learn new concept along with simulation techniques used in power Electronics.
