Academic Management System

Teaching-learning and evaluation processes is of primary importance in PHCET. These processes are required to be refined and monitored continuously as they lead to academic excellence. An Academic Management System ensures the conformance of teaching learning and evaluation during the semester.

The functioning of AMS is mentioned below:

Initially, the planning for Academic calendar is done, following which it is published on the PHCET website for easy access of students. This is followed by subject allocation to faculty members as per their subject choice and expertise and preparation of time table. Every faculty makes a teaching plan and course file of their respective subjects. The teaching plan includes the sequence of lectures, time allotted for each topic and the list of resources used for teaching. This plan is refined / revised by the HOD if required. The planning stage ensures that the gaps in attainment of course objectives are preached by conducting guest lectures and expert lectures resulting in addition of tentative dates or these activities in academic calendar. Along with this Project Based Learning and student – centric methods are included in the teaching learning process. The faculty’s adherence to teaching plan of lectures and practical is continuously monitored by HOD to ensure completion of syllabus. Teachers use various ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools like Light board lecture recording system, Powerpoint presentations, NPTEL and other online lectures from Coursera, EDX to enrich the quality of content delivered. Faculties also undergo short term training programmes to keep themselves uptodate with the latest developments in technology.

Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) is ensured through assignments, tutorials, Unit tests and Practical work. Assignments are designed in a manner that each student has a unique data to solve the same problem; this prevents students from sharing answers and develops their ability to solve problems. Blooms Taxonomy is followed for design of Unit test papers to evaluate students. Parents are informed about the progress of their ward during a Parent Teacher Meeting. Remedial lectures are arranged wherever required after the evaluation of results of Unit test. This strengthens the students to face the end semester examination conducted by University of Mumbai. A faculty and infrastructure feedback mechanism is in place for students to provide suggestions for improvement.

The result analysis of end semester examination is done to get a better understanding of performance of students and faculty in each and every subject. The attainment of COs (Course Outcomes) and POs (Programme Outcomes) is monitored by mapping it with each subject.

Mahatma Education Society has developed an Attendance Management System (AMS) for PHCET. This is an online tool that is meant to view and manage the data related to academic activities of the entire institute such as Attendance of students, teaching plan and load distribution. Attendance and teaching plan is maintained differently for theory as well as practical. AMS helps the faculty and administrators to replace the tedious paperwork with an online system for academic activities. This data is available instantly from within the college or from any remote location, in the form of reports, graphs and statistics. At any point of time the administrator and HoD is able to access the AMS and evaluate the performance of any student studying currently or from the past .

AMS enables the faculty to securely log on through their mes email id and enter their teaching plan, lecture / practical attendance of each student, assignments and internal assessment marks of their respective subject. The class co-ordinators (CC) and HoD is able to generate a list of students failing to maintain minimum attendance. This becomes possible as the AMS is able to aggregate all the data pertaining to a group of students (division) and generate report.

In the near future AMS is expected to add feedback modules through which feedback provided by students will be displayed on the dashboard of respective faculty. Assignment module, Biometric attendance module for faculty
